W760a Forgetting Random Pictures

I guess this is where I'm supposed to post this... I couldn't find this question anywhere else, so I guess I'll shoot.

Anyway, this is a minor problem to which I'm hoping there's a minor fix. I bought the W760a with AT&T a few weeks ago and bought a SanDisk 4g M2 card for it shortly after. Before that, I was temporarily using a SanDisk 256mb card from my girlfriend's old phone for about a week. One thing I noticed with BOTH cards is that the phone will randomly "forget" my camera pictures; sometimes just a few and sometimes all of them. When I say "forget," I mean that it shows that there is indeed a file there, but the thumbnail depicts two arrows going in a circle, and when I try to open it, it just directs me to the next "available" picture, if there are any. If I try to use said picture as a wallpaper or screen saver, it tells me it can't use the file. So the next thing I do is power off the phone and power it back on, try to open the picture, and usually it will say "updating," take about a minute to do so, and the picture works again, but now this method doesn't even work.

I say it's a minor problem because I can still transfer the pictures from the phone to my computer and they're completely in tact and viewable. But I just want to know why my phone is doing this, and hopefully fix it so I can view the pictures on my phone when I need to in the future.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Without checking the phone personally, I wouldn't be able to help that particular problem, however I like the phone - I am not sorry to have chosen it - but I find that the Owner's Guide is very poorly written. The Sony W760a support web site is even worse than the Owner's Guide, but the personnel are quick in responding.
.
Warnings:
1. When saving your contacts into the SIM card, it truncates the data. When putting that back into your phone, the truncated data is still there and you will need to re-do it all. CONCLUSION: Don't use the SIM card.
2. When backing up your phone, the Sony suite software does not tell you that it does not back up your pictures and other things in My Stuff. CONCLUSION: Use your computer to do all of your backup and don't synchronize anything. The suite does fine with contacts, however, and works well with Microsoft Outlook.
.
But on a nice note:
.
I have just tested the SanDisk 16GB Memory Stick Micro(M2) card in my new AT&T Sony Ericsson W760a phone. SDMSM2-016G-A11M
* Note that the SanDisk packaging states that "For Sony Ericsson mobile phones only"
* Also note that "SanDisk" is a trademark of SanDisk * Corporation.
Further note that "Memory Stick Micro(M2)" is a trademark of the Sony Corporation
.
Sone Ericsson says it can use up to a 4GB Memory Stick Micro(M2) card but the 16GB card works GREAT
.
Once the card was installed, the phone recognized it instantly and responded as follows:
.
Settings > General > Phone status > Select
Phone memory:
2.0 MB free
Memory card:
15247 MB free
.
My Stuff > All files > Options > Memory status > Select
Memory card
Free: 15247 MB
Phone
Free: 2.0 MB
.
TEST:
.
Move: “01 The very Thought of You.wma” Nat King Cole song 3,595 KB, 00:03:48 duration
From Phone memory to Memory card:
.
Phone response:
.
Settings > General > Phone status > Select
Phone memory:
5.5 MB free
Memory card:
15243 MB free
.
My Stuff > All files > Options > Memory status > Select
Memory card
Free: 15243 MB
Phone
Free: 5.5 MB
.
During the test, there were no unusual blurps from the Sony Ericsson W760a phone and no noticeable degradation in phone speed from using the 16GB SanDisk memory card i.e. phone performance appeared to remain normal.

I have never had this particular problem with my W760a. It has a SanDisk 16GB M2 memory card in it that is working great so far. (3 days!)

Surely you have already tried to "delete" the file whenever you get those circular arrows?

Does your phone have only the original operating system in it?
Are you sure that the memory chip has been inserted deeply enough in the socket to "click" and stay in position? If not, you will notice that the light gray strip that covers the memory slot will bulge slightly. If you press on the bulge, it will lie flat and then when you let go, it will bulge again.
Are these errant photo files in phone memory or on your 4GB M2 card?
What is the file extension you are using? .jpg ? .gif ?
What is the range of sizes of your photo files, in general. 43KB ? 200KB ?
Has an errant photo file been manipulated by any PhotoShop software?

Needless to say, your computer's file manager is much more powerful than the phone's.
Connect the phone to your computer and look at the photos with that "file manager". (I never liked the Microsoft name, "Explorer". I don't "explore" my computer any more than I "explore" my home - I live there!
Click on the "errant" file and check "properties".
Will your computer's file manager recognize what your phone sees as an errant file and allow you to view it?

Additionally,
Make sure you do not use your fingernails to depress the keys on the keypad because they will eventually crack if you do.
Make sure you remove the USB cable from the phone by rotating upwards while pulling it out because the electro-mechanical design of the socket is "marginal", based upon the daily usage it will get from charging and file maintenance and attached large speakers and ... and ...

Topher07,

You might want to look at my latest thread - I have just experienced a photo problem with my W760a.
