Defective 8100

I switched over to Sprint this past Saturday and bought the Sanyo 8100. It worked great for the first day and a half, but in the past 2 days, I have lost the ability to place calls, receive calls, and access the wireless web on three occasions. On Monday, the problem arose for a number of hours, and I experienced it in two different locations, but by that evening, everything was working fine again. The problem arose once again yesterday afternoon, but for a shorter period of time. Last evening, it happened a third time while I was actually on a call. The problem has continued through this morning.
I'm confident that this is a phone issue, and not a Sprint issue. This is due to the fact that my signal appears to be very strong, that multiple people in close viscinity to me (0.5 to 1 miles in Chicago) have not experienced any problems with Sprint during this time, that this problem has presented itself in two different locations in the city, and the fact that none of the 3 different customer service reps I've spoken with have been able to cite any specific problems in my area.
Has anybody else experienced similar problems with their handsets?
I like the phone, and will probably exchange it for another 8100, but due to the short duration of the return policy, and because I've read a lot of people here talk about returning multiple phones, I'm worried about this or other defects popping up.
