I have a red Nokia 5310 xpress music with rogers and i'm trying to debrand it. I have Nokia PC suite, Nokia software update, and NSS installed. (I'm running vista 32bit SP1 as well). I've updated to the latest firmware. I've installed NSS with Virtual USB device. I searched for devices - scanned for phones and nothing happens. I just get that error - "scan for products... error" in the bottom. I've tried it with and without the sim card. The phone is set to "PC suite" when its connected. I've tried it with PC suite running in the background and without. I hope its still possible to debrand.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I have a similar phone (5310 but black and silver) and ran into the same problem. The solution is to uninstall Nokia PC Suite. The driver for PC suite is interfering with the NSS driver. You can always reinstall when you've debranded the phone.

THe next step got me stumped, I'm trying to use the Nokia Software Updater and it keeps not finding the phone and closing itself off. I'm going to keep on looking, if you find a solution for that let me know! At least you know now how to get Nemesis to find the phone, and maybe the NSU will work for you fine

Thanks for responding!

The NSU wouldn't work for me on one computer, luckily I had another and when I tried it on there it did work. Yay I now got a nice unbranded 5310 with the stuff I needed on it! If I had known that it's no use looking at phone reviews to make sure the phone can do what I needed it to do I wouldn't have gotten it, but I understand Tmobile doesn't tell the truth about their branded software anyways (that it won't run -any- Java apps like Gmail or Opera Mini).

Hope you can get yours all set up!

There's a file you need to install it's in C:\Program Files\NSS\drivers\USB

Right click on the INF file and select install

To verify if it worked correctly check C:\Windows\System32\drivers\nssusb.sys

I got to debrand the phone, but I am still trying to figure out how to get rid of the rogers "Configurations"

I got it!!!! YAAAAAY! All i had to do was uninstall everything. Then download an older version of Nokia pc suite and nokia updater (to get older drivers on my system). I re-installed NSS and it found the phone. Once it connected i had to find the right code for my version of phone software. once i put the right code on there, the older nokia updater replaced the rogers software with the nokia software! Unfortunately, I first put the latest rogers code on there (red 9.4 i think), updated it - and just ended up with the latest rogers software. little did I realize that the latest nokia software for the red phone is only at 7.something and the updater will not put older software on the phone! That turned out okay when i found the nokia blue phone software was also 9.4 and the updater will replace the rogers software rated at the same version. so now i have Blue software on my Red phone which is still WAAAAAY better then that rogers crap.

I hope you get it working right!!!
