SoftBank 821P

hi hi, i'm new to the forums! after spending about 2 hours searching vigorously on these threads, i decided to finally post, although my questions may be extremely newbie (so my pardon to anyone who gets annoyed :< ).

so recently i've decided on the possibility of purchasing a Softbank 821P the mirror series, but i haven't had any luck in actually finding any sellers for this phone. any reason why?

if for any reason this phone is tough to find/purchase, can anyone recommend me a similar style phone? i'm looking for a nice sharp rectangular flip phone, not to fond of rounded edges, simple/elegant design in a nice colour!

browsing through some of the forums, is it true that panasonic phones itself are extremely hard to unlock? can anyone relate or have stories to share? what will it take to fully unlock the phone, internet options aren't a biggie to me.

does anyone actually have this series? any reviews or input you would like to share?

i'm really new to this keitai culture, i'd love to get started on it...haha but i'm kinda have trouble with all these random terms people are using...so if anyone could quickly enlighten me on that i would very mucho appreciate it.

haha oh man, i hope no one yells at me for asking these typical questions, but my eyes are bleeding from searching through these threads, and it just would be dandy if someone with keitai expertise help me reach my cool japanese phone goal

heres a link of the phone that i really really want :*< everything about it makes me wanna pee my pants !

~ thanks in advance,
steph.

~oh crap, i just realized what stickies are lolol ahh
okay i'll look through them before anyone yells and kicks me in the face
but i'll leave this post here just in case if anyone's feeling generous x__x

yeah its a pain to unlock, plus if you sell it, you'll be selling it without any multmedia, if you are ok with sms and calls only, it will work, but if you want camera, media, then I would look at another model, just too much hassle and many rules easy to break

821P is only 3G...no good in Canada then

Posted by: aw614

it has 3g/gsm

Posted by: bubblewrap

oh snaps... ;__;
this whole 3g/gsm network thing, i thought rogers was working on a 3g network now? does that not mean the phone is able to work? networks are....confusing. so after doing even more browsing on the threads, it seems that there aren't that many phones avail to be fully unlocked? i looked through the list of phones on the stickies and i'm wondering if they've been updated...now im looking at the possibility of the 707scii? grr i hate you softbank D:

Well GSM and 3G networks use different frequencies in different areas. These Japanese phones use some frequencies that aren't found in all areas which makes them a little touchy to your location compared to a phone that was actually made for Canada, USA, ect.

well, Softbank has 2100 UMTS..which is the one less prevalent in Canada. The more prevalent band is 850, just like GSM

Posted by: Chillyman

The day when North America gets 2100MHz, the rest of the world would probably have LTE or even 3000MHz or something

Posted by: sega?

Nah. By then, the rest of the world will have chips implanted in their brains that'll allow them to talk telepathically.

Posted by: stevetam

we do have 21003G.. its just very limited

Posted by: Chillyman

We do have 2100MHz, it's almost non-existent

Posted by: AL9999

In case nobody got steve's joke, there's no 2100 coverage on that map at all.

(Someone's bound to misunderstand that map. )

Posted by: stevetam

from this map I can safely say that there is <1% coverage of 2100 3G

Posted by: aw614

i bet there are some 2100 3g but its probably all in lab testing enviornments

Posted by: bubblewrap

so guys...that means no hope for my phone ne? /smashface

Posted by: stevetam

well, take a look at Toronto, there is a centre patch of 2100 3G, which was the earlier UMTS network. Later North America agreed on 850 3G, so anything beyond 3G, say HSPA or HSDPA/HSUPA 850.

Now, in a testing environment say in Waterloo, were RIM is there are bound to be countless networks. Earlier some people detected a Vodafone network in Waterloo for some reason. Probably for testing purposes. Otherwise commerical 2100 UMTS looks very limited, at least in the GTA

Posted by: bubblewrap

anyhoots, i was browsing around about my phone and it turns out theres a full unlock for the phone...but now its just a matter of will it actually work here in toronto for me o_o!

Posted by: bubblewrap

all this tech talk has given me a headache can anyone summarize this for me. my simple question is just now, will the softbank 821p work in toronto?

Posted by: aw614

it will work, it has gsm on it, full unlock, yeah but you have to send your sim card in and the phone is tied to one sim with multimedia

Posted by: bubblewrap

ahh...i'm going to trash this phone option...its too hard to find a seller out there ;___;
oh well i'll just have to keep searching for my perfect keitai

Posted by: IonNuke

There is no perfect keitai. They all have ups and downs. But if you live in Japan then there is a perfect one

Posted by: bubblewrap

ahh damn those japanese /shakes fist
