Do I have to give up America's Choice?

I currently have this plan:

AM CH II SELECT FAM SH PRI 1400 ANY UNL N&W UNL IN UNL MSG $110

If I get a Blackberry Curve, must I move to the Nationwide plan? Or can I remain grandfathered in, and simply add the $30.00 data plan?

If I must be bumped up to Nationwide, my monthly charge will go from $110 to $139, and as I understand it, with a Blackberry, I must then add the $30 onto the $139.

Please advise.

How would you monthly charges go up? Nationwide 1400 Select is $110 for the primary, $10 for all secondaries. It would stay the exact same.

However, to answer the question, no, BlackBerry devices do not need to be on Nationwide to be activated.

You are correct---under the Select plan, it appears that the Nationwide Select plan is $119.00 (not a big difference.) I wouldn't need the Connect plan if I'm paying the $30.00 for the data for the BB only. I see that now.

And, considering the savings of $10.00, maybe I should just stay on AC?

It's not just a matter of you not needing a Connect plan, you wouldn't be allowed to choose a Connect or Premium plan if you went with a BB. Even Verizon can't charge you twice for data on the same line.

Does the other line(s) use any data? If so, I would think twice about moving to a Nationwide plan as you would be charged $$ for data rather than just MOU (minutes of use) with the AC plan. If I were you I would hold on to the AC plan just as long as you possibly can. Once you make the switch to Nationwide you can never go back but you can switch to a Nationwide plan from an AC plan at any time. I know several people who are very sorry they weren't paying attention and allowed themselves to be switched to a Nationwide plan when the phone they were buying didn't require it. The reason I chose an enV2 for my NE2 was precisely because I could stay on a pre-Nationwide plan and pay for my data usage with minutes. I realize this doesn't apply to you if you're going with a BB but what about your other line(s)?

I have 4 lines on my family plan. There will be two smartphones and two dumb phones. I was looking at the Connect plan (hence my own confusion) as I was trying to determine if it would be cheaper for me to go with a Dare (must have Nationwide plan) or not. I did some quick math and it would seem to be pretty much a wash, i.e., if I stick with the AC plan and just add data for two smartphones, it would be about the same (maybe cheaper?) than switching to Nationwide Connect and having one Dare and one smartphone.

if you want to be eligible for the friends and family calling you need to be on the nationwide plan.

Not interested in friends and family because I don't even use all my minutes now...I can call landlines if I choose, and have minutes to spare. Plus, all my friends and family are on VZW and I more often call their cells than their landlines, anyway.

well then you dont have to change, but if you want to purchase any permium phones(lg dare, voyager, versa, samsung glyde, any other well featured phone.)
then your going to have to switch. anything with an html browser other then a pda. If you want to upgrade at a later date to a more basic phone, then you wont have to change your plan. By the way the america's choice plan wont be an option to keep for any upgrades come the end of the year.

How do you know that? Do you work for VZW? I knew it was inevitable for that to happen I just didn't know a date had been set.
