iPhone 3G with iPhone Data Plan. Can I also use this data plan with a Q9H?

I have an iPhone 3G with the proper data plan. I occassionally want to use a Q9H. However, when I put my sim in the Q9H, it cannot access the internet. It will only allow for phone calls. Is it possible to use this phone with data occassionally on my line with the iPhone 3G data plan?
I searched, but I could not find the answer to this, sorry if I missed it.

yes, but you will get an extra unreadable txt message when you have a voicemail(this is from the visual voicemail) and you will not receive mms messages unless you call att and have that option turned on for your plan
