how many composed ringtones is the phone able to hold??i thought that the memory was supposed to be shared over several applications so that you in theory you could have almost limitless ringtones stored. however my phone is now "out of memory" and I am going to have to reset the phone if I want to edit or create or more ringtones. I'm just wondering how many ringtones anyone else has been able to successfully store on their phone without the "lack of memory problem"

I know of a guy who stored more than 80 ringtones in his S40.

I maxed out at 83, after that it won't allow me to import more.

That's a total of 83, including the default ones. It would be sweet if you could delete those.

I thought it ran a unified memory too, maybe it just has limits to each type.

The maximum is 255, but there is a maximum bit count. That is to say that if each ringtone was one note you'd probably get that 255. The longer the ringtones the fewer of them you can have. I haven't gotten infomation on the maximum stoarge in bits for ringtones.

To my knowledge there is no maximum of 255 ring tones. The 255 is the maximum of steps in one ringtone. The ringtones are stored in the common memory with all the other data so there shouldn't be an exact limit.
