P800 GPRS modem via Bluetooth for laptop on T-Mobile

Hello, all. I successfully established a connection via GPRS from my Sony U101 micro-laptop using a Bluetooth dongle.
I tried the D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth adapter, which works perfectly for this purpose, and is a great buy at about $50 retail. Please note, I have not attempted to use the serial connection over Bluetooth to synch my P800.
I will post instructions sometime in the next few days. The connection was via T-Mobile in NYC, and the speed was quite acceptable - I'd say the equivalent of a 56k modem, with the help of T-Mobile's Internet Accelerator (automatically activated the first time you try to access GPRS with a PC). Please note that this did not require the T-Mobile Internet Manager software, only the D-Link adapter's driver/software installation, the P800 modem scripts from the SE website, and Bengalboy's instructions on setting up GPRS on the P800.
For those who will attempt this before I post instructions, please note that T-Mobile's website states that the internet connection setup on the laptop requires a blank UserID and a password of "A". However, when you set up the dialup icon on the PC, it requires a UserID. The solution to this is to put anything in the space where UserID is required, and simply delete the UserID entry before you attempt to dial out (not sure if leaving text in the UserID field will work or not - I'll try this before I post instructions).
Also note that the T-Mobile website has instructions for setting up just such a connection with the P800, but they use the TDK PCMCIA Bluetooth adapter. The instructions are the same for the D-Link.
Oh, and one last thing: SWEEEEEEEET!

Great thread JellyGuy. Just got my TDK bluetooth adapter yesterday and plan to set-up my P800 as a modem. Good to have a little tip before I got started. Thanks

T-Mobile Configurator
If your laptop isn't listed, don't fret! Just choose "Any laptop" and your operating system. The next page that appears lists a number of phones, including many never offered by T-Mobile - and, yes, including the P800!
I only find these things after returning from an evening of drunken debauchery.

Well, I got the D-Link Bluetooth Adapter yesterday for $49 at Frys ... very easy to install and everything works great.
Did a couple of speed tests and with the "Accelerator on" I got on the 1st. 67 Kbs, and on the 2nd 50 Kbs. no bad....
Thanks again Jellyguy

I used the GPRS connection via Bluetooth to create this post.
The T-Mobile Configurator (link above) has very good instructions on how to perform this setup. I m not going to repeat the same instructions, but here's some observations:
1. When entering a UserID and password while setting up the dialup connection, XP will require a UserID, even though T-Mobile instructions indicate that no UserID should be entered. Enter anything as a UserID, and "A" as the password (as per T-Mobile instructions). Then, on the first dialup attempt, you can delete the UserID, and this will change the stored UserID for this dialup connection for all future dialup attempts.
2. Another thing: at one point, my laptop was failing to make the GPRS connection. If this happens, simply power down and restrat the P800. The GPRS connection worked properly after that.
If anyone has problems with sertting this up, I will go ahead and post detailed instructions, but they will be identical to those provided by T-Mobile's Configurator.
Federico, you are very welcome.

I know that you posted this a long time ago! I can NOT get my mac to use the P800 as the modem. I can get the Z600 and the T610 to work just not this on.
Please help if you can

Sorry, no idea on using the P800 with a Mac. Anyone?

Thanks for the T-mobile link. Why they make them so hard to find is beyond me.
Followed everything to the letter (or so I think) but when I go to connect I get the message that the port is busy, retry.
Have checked and double checked it but can't find my error.
Help appreciated.

Please help.

We know some of you have the good forture of making the next great technological leap to the P900 but I think this is an issue for you as well.
