Loving PhonePower

Thought i'd post this because I lurk in this section quite a bit but never share much...

I have had every VoIP provider under the sun the past 5 years (Packet8, SunRocket, Vonage, Comcast CDV, COX, etc..). While most provided pretty good service (except Packet8), I had yet to find a reliable one that was also cheaper than the other.

I signed up for PhonePower(.com) last month, when Vonage upset me and I wanted to get away from them.

I have had wonderful voice quality (with the exception of cable VoIP it's the best Internet VoIP yet) and I can't find another reliable provider that is nearly as cheap as they are. My number ported the day they said it would, but Vonage dragged out the port date 2 weeks.

Right now if you prepay for 12 months ($199), you get your second year for free.

These are the same guys that founded DSLExtreme in Winnetka, CA.

Really loving their service thus far.

Anyone else have this? I read that you can BYOD. What devices are compatible?

SterlingJ85,
I have cable modem through Time Warner. There is no phone RJ jack in this room. Can I plug the cable (from wall) into the voip modem then into my cable modem then into my router? Or if anyone has other ideas, I would be grateful.

Also, do you have to have an existing phone number or could for example my parents do away with the AT&T monopoly and just plug this into their RJ and into the cat5 on the computer.

Thanks,
o2

Phone Power is like any other VOIP telephone service like Vongage, Pocket, etc. You connect the VOIP device to router or the cable modem. the phone connects to the Phone1/Phone2 port at the back.

It is similar to Time Warnet digital phone except that Time Warner has no separate VOIP device. The Cable Modem has phone ports (RJ11).

So, you connect the Phone Power device to your router (like you connect a computer to the router) and then to connect your phone to Phone Power device (using the phone RJ11 port on the back).

As a long-term, multi-site client of DSLExtreme, I can't say give them (ahem) a "ringing" endorsement. They may represent one of few national competitive ISPs, but their service is at best, acceptable.
