e71x sound issues

I asked one of these questions over in the s60 forums (after being moved from nokia ones).
But the first, most aggrivating issue I have, is the 2.5mm headphone jack. I use my phone while driving via a direct line into my stereo. I got a 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter for it from radioshack and I had issues, and I just assumed it was being it was radioshack. Well, I got a higher quality one online and recieved it yesterday. Well, I still can only get right speaker sound. I have it plugged in and I've tried all 4 enhancement options and it was no go. [on the note of 'enhancements', can someone give a link/explanation of what the differences are?] What am I doing wrong?
The second issue regards bluetooth. Is there a way to get the BT headset to only share sound when going into a phone call? I like to leave my headset on while driving (listening to music on the phone through the 2.5mm line). But whenever I connect my headset, all sound goes through the BT headset, which is quite frustrating (and battery consuming). It's a plantronics... 510 IIRC.
Thanks for your time.
UPDATE: After about 3 hours of heavy duty googling (sounds dirty), I determined my issues stem from me using a 4 pole adapter (for stereo + mic). I just ordered a 3 pole one, so hopefully that should resolve my first issue. Still would appreciate clarification on the 'enhancements' if anyone is an encyclopedia for Nokia though.

Very odd. I have a 4 pole adapter which I use with a standard phono-RCA adapter for my car stereo, and it works just fine. I plug it into my phone then select "headphone" for the output, and it comes out in stereo. Works perfectly.
As for headsets, I've never ever used one, but I do use a car kit. I havent tried it yet simultaneously, but I suspect that all audio will pass through the 2.5mm line because I have to press a button to activate voice commands or pick up a call.

In my car, ALL audio will pass through the 2.5 mm jack when hooked up. I can press the voice command button on my headset, but the mic must be sensing somewhere else. commands don't go through.
That wasn't your question though.
Doesn't look like the E71x makes a distinction for audio between calls and everything else. Where it outputs, it outputs.
I can even play music out of my hands free kit which is completely absurd.

Well, to give an update, I discovered that the e71x pinout for the speaker is different from e71. The microphone and left speaker are switched on it. That's the source of the issue.
As for BT, I haven't played with it too much. But with my BT headset, if I keep it in the sleeve, it'll divert all sound out until I unsheath it, which is the behavior I was looking for. I don't know what to attribute this to, because when I'm done it ends sound. It may be one of the enhancement options, I don't know.
