Explain to me please.

Sorry, I've wondered about this for awhile.
So, I went to a website and compared the Palm Pre, Iphone, and HTC Touch Pro. I looked at the specs for each phone and I say the Display portion.
The Iphone and Pre have a 24 bit (16.7 million colors) 320 X 480 pixels and the touch pro has an 18 bit (262,144 colors) 480 x 640 pixels. Based on the comparison on the website, the Touch pro has the advantage in this portion of the comparison. Why is that? Is it based on the pixels or colors? Because I think the Iphone has the best screen image out there. I mean the Touch pro's display is clean but nothing like the Iphone. So what makes one phone better than the other in regards to display?
