Contact search in Chinese?? How to change?

Hi there,
after going through a lot of the setup with my chinese version P800 and changing them to English (UK) I still have the odd quirks where if I do a contact search with the flip up, it would look for chinese characters? Like the below image. However, if I hold a number down, it will bring up a filtered list of names according to what number I press, for example, 5 for JKL. But is there away to change the screenshot below?

before entering the letter to start searching for contact click on the star* button "flip closed" to switch to english;-)
