Need Help With Routers...Direct Approach

I am working in Barcelona for 2 months and have moved into a place that has Telefonica WIFI service provided by a Xavi 7968 router. Using a Macbook. I can connect hardwire, and my roommate can connect wirelessly, but I cannot.

I can see the network I want to connect to, but it says the password is invalid, though roommate who connects wirelessly uses that password.

Can someone give me as much detail/explanation as possible in connecting wirelessly.

I am currently using a 3 foot cord to connect which is not comfortable.

Also, the whole 192.168.1.1 won't let me log in, as the username and password are both 1234. If I reset the router, I have a window of about 3 minutes where it works, then I get logged off? Explanation for that?
