Just curious, is it possible I can replace the software on a Nextel Motorola i9 phone with Boost Mobile software for the motorola i9?

Not sure what you mean by that.

You can put a Boost SIM card into any Nextel iDEN phone and use it immediately, without needing any modifications or "flashes."

Boost even mentions this on their website.

Uh, yeah. but it can't exactly be discussed here.

Why can't it be discussed? There is nothing illegal about it. Boost phones are nothing but Nextel phones marketed under their pre-pay moniker, and they even recommend using (true) iDEN phones with the Boost service.

Again, this does not require any "modifications, flashing, software installation," or any other "tricks" to make it work. You simply take the Boost SIM card and plug it into the Nextel phone and you're done.

The only time this won't work is with the short-lived Nextel "hybrid" phones, as they only used the iDEN network for the Direct Connect side of the phone, while the "interconnect" side used Sprint's CDMA network.

Boost is not setup for that kind of special arrangement, although it would really be cool if they were.

The only cool thing about a Boost phone is the different colors they come in as opposed to Nextel phones which are targeted to older folk.

Why would you want your Nextel flashed for Boost anyway??

Methods used are not allowable by Motorola because their software is propietory and illegal to own unless your authorized to have it.

Wirelessly posted (Motorola i580: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.1.10423/1724; en; U; ssr))

if you update the phones software from the motorola site, there is one file you can modify on your pc before the upgrade.all it will do is load the boost theme pack instead of nextels.not worth the trouble.
