W376g hacking assistance

I have a w376g tracfone which i'm tryin to hack. I'm able to connect it via USB to my computer and it does charge, but it won't read it as a modem. I've seen on quite a few sites that an "unknown device" category or somethin like that pops up when you connect the phone, but I don't get that either. My computer is a P.O.S. inspiron 1300 with Windows XP Home Edition, so i was wondering if anyone might know the answers, which i would greatly appreciate.
