I currently own a N95, N78, E71 - with the latter 2 being HSDPA phones. I run them on US att with a old cingular sim (no 3g logos) + 20$ medianet plan and am able to connect fine, ~700kbs data in my area. I can also tether and such and have done so for over a year. The question is, if I were to purchase a unlocked iphone 3g, would I be able to keep doing this? Having no visual voicemail would be fine.

For reference, my current data usage is
300-500mb download
100-150mb upload
Per month.

The iPhone will be detected as such and will cause AT&T to insist upon the proper data plan. You may lose Internet connectivity.
