Is Verison going to start using Sim cards in the near future?

Was at a Verizon store today picking up my new Env3. Got to talking with the store Tech., as to why Verizon hasen't allowed LG to set up their phones so all your Contacts could also be stored on your Micro SD card. So It would be easy to switch phones by ejecting the Msd card, and simply inserting the card into the new phone. Than all your contacts, pics, video's, & music, ect. would be installed an ready to go. No more having to have the verizon employee hook your phone to the magic machine and transfer all your contacts for you. He said "Funny you should say that, I have been hearing from my inside sources at Verison that they are thinking of going to Simcards on there phone here in the very near future. I said that wouldn't have anything to do with the rumor that Verizon is getting the Apple I-phone, is it?

He, said might have something to do with it - I guess we'll soon see....

What do you all think of this ? Was the guy just pulling my leg, talking smack, so to speak????

You can already pretty much do pictures, videos, and music via a memory card, with the only remaining thing being contacts, and for a lot of phones Backup Assistant will get the job done just fine, so no need to even get anyone from VZW involved.

That being said, in terms of SIM cards and VZW, the reference is likely about the move to LTE (4G): http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...2&highlight=sim.

Is Backup Assistant really free for those who can log in to their account via My Verizon? I do not pay my bill online (I usually do it over the phone) but can access my account info online.

Yes, you don't get charged for it as long as you have a My Verizon account set up online (and I guess make sure that it's active by probably logging in at least once in a while). You can get charged for the data used to download the application itself or to download an upgrade for it if one is released, but actually using the application itself doesn't come with any charges (application, data, or otherwise).

Well in theory you could make a MicroSD card a SIM card since a SIM card is just a Subscriber Information Module. If your number and contacts are stored in some fashion on the MicroSD card and can be retrieved via the phone from the card, then whammo, you're MicroSD card can be considered a SIM card. Tho it won't control you being able to make calls with or without it like traditional GSM SIM cards.
I'm just speculating tho. I'm guessing the iPhone Verizon might be getting in the future won't have a SIM card like the GSM ones out now.

Yeah, although no phones, beyond perhaps some PDA ones and maybe some BB ones (and even then with some hacking) can read or save contacts or messages from or to a memory card. And, yeah, certainly it won't control your service, which is another big thing that SIM cards do.

In terms of the iPhone, if it's going to be a CDMA one, then certainly no SIM or any cards like that, but if it's going to be an LTE one, there's certainly might be one there then (similar to SIM being used on AT&T now).

The new Alais2 has a feature that allows you to back-up your contacts to the microSD card. The contacts can be downloaded back to the phone.

You can also access the card to dial contacts stored on the card.
You can copy, move, erase just one contact or all.

If you have the Alais2.... be careful with this feature.... if you copy all the contacts on the card back to the phone or vice versa.... you will have 2 entires for each contact on which ever you downloaded it to.

To aviod this.... you need to erase the contacts on either the phone or card before writing from phone to card or vice versa.

Of couse.... make sure you don't erase the from the wrong source.

You can also hit "Move All To Phone" or "Move All To Card" and it will move My Pics, My Videos, My ringtones, My Music, My Sounds, My Contacts all at once.

VZW back-up assisant is still a GOOD IDEA!!!!!!!!!! And probally still the better way to go.

What exactly is blocked? On the phone or on the computer?

Any particular reason why this would be in this thread?
