I DID IT!!! 2 numbers on one MEID

*EDIT* ... oops posted in wrong section, please move it, thanks.

I do not believe there is anything illegal about what I did but please tell me if it is. The procedure is easy (at least it was for me). I have a feeling this only works for a prepaid and a postpaid account because I think they are different databases, but I might be wrong. So here is what I did:

1. Take your phone off of any phone number it is currently on
2. Log onto both vzw accounts at the same time
3. Go to the change phone screen on each account
4. Enter the MEID/ESN into each account's text box
5. Click ok on both accounts at the same time
6. Sit back and enjoy as vzw servers get confused

As I said before, I have a feeling prepaid and postpaid need time to sync up and this allows the ESN to get into each database before that happens. I have postpaid on nam1 and prepaid on nam2. Seems to work great. Unfortunately *228 doesn't work, so you gotta load prl
s manually... but who cares. CHEERS EVERYONE

Will some other people please try this so we can find out whether or not this was a fluke?

*UPDATE*
I can't get bluetooth DUN to work on the prepaid (nam2) account. GIN doesn't work either, it says"unable to retrieve catalog. please try again later (18)." Mobile web works though. The entire reason for doing the prepaid was for cheap bluetooth dun over evdo... so I really want to get that to work. Any ideas how to get this to work?

*UPDATE2*
Awww, now, nothing internet related works for prepaid... I don't know if its something I did or not.

Just to update you guys, I got the internet to work on the prepaid. When you do the activations, do the prepaid one slightly before the postpaid one. *228 still doesn't work loading prl's manually is fine with me .

I think it'll clear up the confusion by itself and sync back up. Basing it off of the last MEID activated...

Did you actually mean last number activated? I have 2 numbers on one MEID, not 2 MEIDs on one number, so it has to choose which number to program my phone with when I do *228. I was hoping that if I programmed the numbers manually on each Nam, then it would know what to do... but it it's been a day now and it's still confused. How long do you think it would take before it syncs up?

Also, another update. I seem to have lost internet on the postpaid account now. Both accounts were working for a time. It seems after awhile, the internet on one of the accounts is blocked no matter what. But everything else works on both accounts: voice, text messages, etc. Oh, I also tried to set up some sort of no answer/transfer/call forwarding by dialing *71 or *72 but the woman on the recording says "welcome to verizon wireless, your call cannot be completed as dialed." So ya, doing this glitch confuses their servers pretty bad.

Its been like this for alltel.

But you still will only receive calls for which ever number you have chosen(nam1 or nam2). Not both at the same time. Plus, having to switch nam1 or nam2 to make an outgoing call from the preferred number. I guess it works the same way with verizon?

Dual NAM support has been around forever...

around forever, but now disabled by vzw and most other carriers (if i remember correctly). nextel was the last i heard of this being supported unless you have a cellphone with 2 sim card slots.

The thing is, I only use the prepaid for the free data usage, not the calls. Verizon doesn't charge per MB on prepaid, so when I want to tether, I switch to nam2.

But now, I found an even better way. I changed my nai settings on the nam with my postpaid number to my prepaid number instead. Now I can enjoy postpaid calling using normal minutes and free prepaid internet both on the same nam.

How's data free on VZW pre-paid? Doesn't VZW charge for something in some way related to data? I mean I'm sure people aren't getting on VZW pre-paid and suddenly just have free for all internet on their phone without paying anything for it.

I don't think they intended it this way. Read here. So what verizon does is charge you a 99 cent one time fee for each day you use mobile web and the rest of the data transfer is free. But it turns out that they charge ONLY for mobile web. Get it Now data transfer is free without any charge except the apps you buy and they did not think about someone changing the tethering NAI so the phone wouldn't be blocked from tethering. People in that thread are claiming to not get charged at all for using ANY tethering, and I have tested and confirmed this. All you to do is keep the phone active, by buying minutes every month ($15.00/month) or you could buy $100 worth of minutes and have it not expire for a year.

What I am going to try next is the free wap hack where you change the wap proxy to get around the 99 cent charge because I believe that is how they charge you for the mobile web. And after that, I will try to find a non-verizon smartphone that verizon doesn't know about so that they will let it be activated on a prepaid number. Then, I can install a VOIP app get a REALLY cheap VOIP service. With VOIP on the phone, all calls will be free because there is no data usage charge. This means, that a smart-phone activated on a prepaid verizon line, with the proper hacks and edits, will turn the prepaid number into an UNLIMITED EVERYTHING line: unlimited calls, unlimited web, and unlimited data (for tethering), all for just having a prepaid line active by adding the $15 per month or $100 per year. Of course, buying thing on get it now will still cost some. Poor verizon, lol.

So, if anyone knows of any non-verizon smart-phones that can be activated on verizon prepaid, let me know .

Oh, and I believe all the things I am talking about here are legal. Nothing is getting stolen (at least legally, perhaps morally it is stealing), verizon is just giving free data and I am using it.
