Well, yes and no. All the Sprint Reps have view pictures of a new Sanyo that will come in the future. It is going to be a great phone that will allow you to do pictures..... actually be able to take pictures from the phone itself with its camera and email right then and their. Assuming that you are aware of all possible features that you could use on a cell phone right now, on top of that it will play a variety of games and even movies.

But when? Sprint had one of these handsets available at the CES convention. I was able to see a presentation from Sprint that was led by their CEO, and the SPCS guy was giving a demo with the phone. I saw this off SprintPCS.com and clicked the media link off of the front page there. Then I went through their newsgroup links and found the 3G link.

The phone will not be out until 3G is completely ready. They may not introduce this until the second wave of 3G is released. Remember Sprint wants to be the first to hit 144kbps but they also want to be the first to hit 2-5 Mbps. This may fall along the lines somewhere around here.

Wait for it? It depends on how much of an impulsive buyer. I have the 5150 and would not take it back and wait for the next best thing. This may take a while no matter what anyone says. And besides there will probably be an even better phone after this one, just like there will be an even better after that one.

I always thought how funny the phone says "No Service" on the LCD display.

Posted by: Skylinepilot

i dont see the "No service" on the display from those 2 links......

Anyhow if you do close up on these images of this phone you will notice that there are still Japanese characters on the keypad of this phone (or "denwa" is how the Japanese say it). I think this would back up my previous post on the ETA for this handset as this seems to be current for Japan meaning it will be new to us U.S. citizens a lot later down the line.

On the secondary LCD display, there is the term "kengai" in chinese characters next to the small antenna picture which means it is out of service area. If you want a literal translation, it means out of sphere, orbit, or range. So, yes, it showed No Service

I can message faster in japanese than I can in english. Isn't that sad. Actually, the text input method in Japanese on most phones are very nice and intuitive.

Sanyo SCP-7200

PTT takes 3 seconds to hook up to the system then it works just like nextel PTT.

Sprint wants it out by the end of the year but who knows.

REP's for sprint already use it and the can PTT from San Deigo to Kansas City.

This phone pictured might not be it because I was told it looks like a
4900 with a new skin.

The phone in this picture looks more like a Slider. Funny that sprint (or should I say sanyo) would put a sprint logo on a japan only phone.
