....is replacing the current sl500 look? DEAR GOD PLEASE NO!!! at leats IMO, the nose is the ugliest design merc has ever made, and it ranks up there with the aztec in worst designs ever. don't give this blissfully immaculate vehicle a nose job; look at mike jackson, it didnt do him any good! and god forbid you keep redoing it again and again but continually worsen the look like him too!

what have you guys heard? what is your opinion?

im gonna have to agree with you for now.

but then again, I also absolutely hated the W210 when it first came out.. and started loving it after about a month or so

I don't think MB has made a design screwup yet (read: BMW's Bangle)

the current SL is one of the nicest looking cars on the market...
it's a shame they're gonna screw up the nose...

guys, guys, don't worry, the slr isn't a replacement for the sl they're two seperate cars

as for the current sl... mmm... so nice! last night, i saw a parked sl55 amg (yeah, i know they're plenty around) but along comes a 360 modena (there was also a black viper with a silver racing stripe, but those two cars are way out of it's league) mmm.... cresent street in the the summer... side by side, very nice!!!

slr's nose, well it's inspired by the mika's mclaren mb f1 car.... i dunno... not a big fan of it either initially, but it's been what 3-4 years now (the vision slr)... it's grown on me...

edit: oh didn't read the initial post porperly... do you have a link to where you got this info from??? the sl getting the slr's nose -that'll be a complete shame

btw, just in case you haven't heard, the slk's gonna have the same nose too...

and a trivia for you guys, u sure do know the current chief designer of bmw, chris bangler is one of the most hated guy in the bmw line? the one being 'called' as the killer of the 7 series?! (and now the 5, as the 5's joining the design of 7, for the 2004 models)

actually i love the SLR very much. I know that the design might be very aggressive but nevertheless it is some what a 'new' design. Not too bad either.

i once saw it being described as looking like a d!ck on another forum...

Things have changed alot since then. Its been proven that Bangle's designs grow on you. I'm one of many many people that used to think the new 7 and Z4 are fugly...but now I that look at them, I think they are great looking cars. The same with new 5...I give props to Bangle for creating something different, because many cars are starting to look the same these days. Just look at Mercedes, their models look great but too similar to one another.

Since BMW's world market share is only 2%, they don't need to make designs that appeal to everyone. If BMW can find a small number of people that are crazy about its cars, the engineers & designers consider their job well done.

I like the SLR, I personally think it looks really mean and fast. Think about it this way guys, it's way better than the cars we drive, so it does it for me.

Both BMW and MB are starting to go with these outrageous styles, I guess we'll eventually get used to them.
