U must have a old version just access the engineering menu, do a search and you will find what to input I can't remeber off the top of my head

check this out:

Technician menu:
The following code input and green listener key press: * # 3 6 4 4 6 3 3 7 * 8 3 7 8 #
Briefly wait and then red listener keys press and let us see that in the main menue will appear a further menu option stating "engineering". Since there are menu options, one must deal quite carefully. You can also view the version of the software here.

should work.

If you do *#06# then the up volume key (the silver one) and it doesn't show your SW-Version that means it's older than version 2.9.0. Send that thing in for an upgrade.

BTW: Only Cingular can give you that Unlock Code, Siemens customer care doesn't even have access to that information.

If your phone is unlocked, yes...

If it's locked and if you can't insert an operable SIM, most features are not available. I believe on 3.2.0, it won't display the SW version either if it's all locked up (w/o a valid inserted SIM).

If you bought that S40 from Cingular it will have have 3.1.0, the only version approved for use on Cingular networks. Regardless of whether or not the phone is operator locked it will still show the sw-version. The only exception would be if it's permamently blocked, in which case it won't do much of anything. If you incorrectly entered a pin or sim unlock code and then the PUK too many times the phone is permenently locked (hosed).
