(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey everyone!

I was about the biggest nokia fanboy there was to date, but im making a step into unchartered territories

Im getting an sl55 this afternoon, wish me luck!
and with all the good reviews on siemens phones and this nice design maybe my fanboyishness will be finally put to rest

Good Luck and let us know what you think of the SL55, I have a C35i and it's a reliable backup phone . I'm sticking with Nokia but it's turning out to be interesting to observe the numerous new phones being released by the manufacturers.

Do you plan on giving us your own review ?

Posted by: thasheik

thanx!
yea i was getting really curious about siemens phones and this one looks so nice so i decided to get it

it should be here really soon cant wait

ill post up a mini review tonite based on features and such, and compare it to nokia phones with similar functions

I used to be a Nokia only fanboy also, until I just switched to my Siemens C56. Siemens makes great quality phones... they have a nice feel to them.

hey everyone!

just charged up my sl55 and took a preliminary run through menus and features

took me a lil bit to get used to the interface but it works very nicely

this phone comes with next to nothing preloaded when it comes to wallpapers, screensavers, games etc, i guess this could mean they wanted to give you full customizablity? or just lazy? you decide, i dont mind since i delete everything and start from scratch anyways on series 40 phones

the screen is nice, but the series 40 nokia phones beat it out, images look much crisper and cleaner on them, the screen is still nice but compared to other 4096 screens it falls short

RF is around average, it gets about the same as an 8890, so not as good as a 7210 or 8390, much better than the t68i though

made a few calls, the sound quality is great, everything sounds very clear and crisp, better than the nokia phones ive used

sms is great on here, keys are very easy to push and not get confused with, and best of all T9, makes life so easy

and now the best part of the phone, its sooo small when its closed, when its open its about the size of an 8290, maybe a couple mm longer so its still a good size and wont get lost

this was just a really really brief look at the phone, ive only played around with it for 15 min or so lol
but so far its great! may just become a perm phone for me because its so stylish

im going to play around with all the options, install stuff on it and use gprs tonite and give more impressions

if you have any questions just ask

What are your newest impressions? Is there anything in particular that you came across that sets the SL55 apart from the Series 40 phones?

Posted by: thasheik

new impressions arent too much more, im having a hell of a time trying to get the siemens data suite to work
it keeps telling me that the program needs to be updated to be properly compatible with the phone but i cant find any updates on my-siemens.com

apart from series 40 phones is the active slide ofcourse which i love
other than that it feels much the same, it has a really nice built in organizer much like the 3650's
and when looking through files it is very reminiscient of windows explorer since everything is split up into folders and you can sort through them

im having some trouble getting my gprs set up, i forget the ip address and other details for rogers goam.com gotta search for that tonight
but i cant wait to test the xhtml browser

the speakerphone works well, max volume is a much softer than the 7210 and 3650, but most of the time id be using it in a quiet area so it still works well
one downside of the speaker phone is that the person on the other end cant hear me as well as they would if it was off
with my 7210, people kept complaining that im coming in too loud and think im shouting at them lol
so overall its not the best speakerphone out there but it does the job

so far what ive noticed with the phone, if your going for features, you may as well get a series 40 nokia, everything they offer is pretty much the same but halved memory (sl55 has 1.6 megs free where as most series 40 (not incl 7250 and 6800) only have 716 kb to play around with
so a series 40 nokia would give you the same features for a lower price and a nicer screen, congrats to nokia making wonderful phones available w/o making me broke
sl55 is all about the looks to me, its very very stylish, moreso than the 8890 id say
why do people go for an 8890? features? helll no! lol its all about the look
but if you want a very stylish phone with lots of features go for the sl55

im not saying that sl55 is a bad phone in terms of features, i think its absolutely great, but you can get the same features for half the price if you want this phone for something to fool around with

ill keep testing it out more all weekend and give a full review by monday and will compare it to all the phones ive used

im still taking more questions all the time, so ask away

the main question, hows your battery life and any bugs you encountered yet?

Posted by: thasheik

i find the battery life to be good on this phone
i use phones heavily, i am always getting calls or fooling around with them, 3650 would barely last me a day at work after being fully charged

i find i get around the same battery life as the 7210

ive only come across one bug, trying to copy contacts from my sim over to the phone, it froze and wouldnt do anything, i had to take the battery out to reset it, other than that, nothing else

i checked the firmware its 05

I got a Sony Ericsson T300 phone, and im looking to upgrade. Im poking around for better phones next to the SE T610 and I just saw the Seimens SX1 which look like a very VERY nice phone. Also this SL55 phone which im still reading up on, but I love your post thanks for all the info.

My question is how much did you pay for the phone though.... Also was it new/retail or used and bought online.

Also it says the SL55 has Polyphonic Ringtones. I wanted to know if there 4 chord, 32 chord or what...

Thanks In Advance!

if you check the b/s/t youll see the going price, i got mine from there new
its going for around 700

not sure about the chords, i think 16?

I have only used Nokias so far and am very hesitant in switching to another make for fear of unfamiliarity of features and usage.
However, really love the look of the Siemens SL55, and also, Nokia's getting a little boring.
So before I do anything, can you pls comment :

Alarm - does the alarm comes on when the phone is off? I switch off my mobile before going to bed and use the alarm to wake me up every morning.

Profiles - Can it be renamed?

Caller Groups Ringtone - Can ringtones be assisgned to Contacts?

Calendar/Organiser - Does it have a "Note pad" or "To Do List"?

Contacts : Does it have a Postal Address or "Notes" entry?

Voice Memo/Recorder?

Voice Dial?

Patiently await your comments to the above, which are very important features to me. Thank very much.

I'm an avid nokia fan too and was looking into the sl55 today. Really appreciate the way you broke down your reviews. Answered a lot of questions I had (even a few I would have thought of later). Good work
