local police using unmarked camry hybrids?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

i don't know if this has been covered in other forums but heregoes

[Short Ver.]
spotted two white camrys (current gen) being used as unmarked police cars in mississauga. no photos unfortunately

[Long Ver.]
Just on my way home from dinner at 9ish
saw a white camry rapidly slowing down from high speed behind me while i was stopped at the lights @ mavis/burnhamthorpe (i just thought it was some jerk that was driving fast).
behind that camry was another one and they both pass me on the right while preparing to take a right turn...
two white camrys in a row catches my attention but i didn't even realize they were police cars until i noticed the outline of led scanners positioned behind the rear headrests as they passed. (i think i even saw a hybrid badge?)
i pass them as the lights turn green and sure enough... uniforms

Wow. I hate undercover cops. I was on the freeway once and some guy passed by me going pretty fast. There was a white Camaro behind him with heavily tinted windows. Immediately, lights started flashing through the really dark rear windshield. I was very surprised. The guy didn't even have radar on. Sneaky!

When I was working for the city here I saw all their undercover popo cars...

quad cab ram, 2008 white tahoe w/ black grille guard, 3 or 4 different colored chargers and many others.....

However, they got smart and don't have like 5 antennas on top like the old under covers had.

I have seen undercover cops in all kinds of unexpected (usually domestic) cars, as well as some totally unexpected seized cars. Even saw a Merc S class once. But those are generally not the type that do traffic violations. Washington State or Oregon (can't remember which) does use Subaru Legacy GT's for the staties. I have also seen at least one case of a modified 350z (again seized) used for sneaky traffic violations...mainly racing.

Camrys as a standard cruiser is a dangerous thing though. Would never see it comming

I saw a black camry in Mississauga the other day with stealth markings, hidden police lights, stealthy antennas on the roof and everything. Not sure if it was a hybrid though.

Stealth markings are those markings on the side which look black but show up when a light is projected onto it.

The danger with all those undercover cars, especially those which are unusually brands like Toyotas, is that people might not consider them legit. if I see a Camry trying to chase me down, I would call the police and tell them some Police impersonator is tailing me and request another officer come to my rescue.

It's not like it hasn't happened before. Just last month a fake police pulled over an undercover cop in the U.S. and got caught.

looks like even police need to save MPG's haha

some cops are really wasteful tho...like using the A/C when its like 70* out

i drove past a black tahoe that was super unmarked (could only tell by his uniform of course, black wheels, and i think i saw a cage too)

Tip for you guys: if you see what looks to be an unmarked car look for the police cage that separates front and back

Many unmarked cars are used simply for traffic violations, so they don't have cages.

Yeah here in SoCal I've seen police Corvettes.. couldn't use the back seat of that for arrests.. So no cage.

Yeah, we have undercover cops here - I saw a Toyota Camry once. But mostly they have Ford Mustangs and Ford Fusions. I've seen a BMW before too!

As far as marked - they use Chevy Colorado and VW Jetta. - we've got a pretty hip police force! lol.

That's why they need to start using the Carbon Motors E7. It is purpose built just for police.

http://www.carbonmotors.com/ when they municipality is done using them, they go back to the Carbon factory to get recycled, and not auctions where anyone can buy them for dirt cheap.

P5010,

Those Camry Hybrids are actually from the City of Mississauga Parking Enforcement. The LED light bar at the bottom of the rear window will flash in Amber and White but just not in Red and Blue as police.

I first noticed that last year. Like you, I saw the operator was dressed in uniform. But later I saw one guy up close when walked into the Second Cup just across the City Hall from this particular Camry Hybrid. Then I realized who they are. The other time I saw one coming to a condo with a tow truck (apparently towing a illegal parked vehicle blocking the fire route). Also, seen one issuing tickets around the City Centre even at 2AM! (You know parking meters pop up everywhere in the City Centre now, $ka-Ching$).

Yah they're only parking enforcements.

I saw one ticketing a car today @ Jack Darling Park in Port Credit.

Hopefully the OPP don't catch on that their are way better ways to be sneaky. Right now they only use Tahoes and Crown Vics. Are local police force uses Impalas. I honestly have no idea why the OPP insists on using Crown Vics when they could use a Taurus instead, or a hundred other superior vehicles.

well i was chilling with my buddy over the weekend, and he works for york region police, and apparently they all love the crown vics. they seem to be the most reliable, and with good enough power for the job.

but apparently york region is looking to change crown vics to bigger cars like suv's instead.. he mentioned one car they were looking at is the ford edge..

he told me even york has alot of unmarked cars, but most of them are not used as interceptors... they have a lambo police car, but its more to take it to shows and stuff..
