Snapsync and Bell Phones

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I know that the fact that Snapsync does not officially support non-US phones (i.e. Bell).

However, I was able to test Snapsync 1.2 with my Kyocera 2255 from Bell (and Kyocera Data cable), and was able to successfully read and write to my phone.

I did not try to sync with outlook (we use Notes at work), so I can not comment on this.

Based on this experience, I would actually consider buying another Samsung phone (the one issue I had was the lack of software to backup the phone), as it appears that the software will read non-US phones (just not supported by Futuredial). To be fair - I am guessing as to whether or not it would work with Samsung phones, as I am not able to test this without a phone and data cable. I would be interested to hear from people with any of the Samsungs who tried to use the software (successfully or unsuccessfully).

One thing to note - if you try the software, and it screws up your phone - don't blame me - I am just passing on the results of my tests with the software and my phone.

My apologies if this information has already been posted - I did not see anything like this when I did a search.

I actually emailed the folks at Futuredial a while back, and asked if they would be supporting any of Bell Mobility's phones. They said they didn't have any plans to, mainly because they are based in the USA and it's difficult to test cellphones used in another country when you're not in that country. Anyway, there IS a thread on this subject in this forum somewhere, but again it's contents aren't going to be helpful because I've basically summarized it above.

If you really need to sync your phone, then the 7135 is the only Bell phone that can do it (but only because it's a PalmOS device)

if i remember correctly, if you purchase a digital data 2 go kit for the kyocera, you get a sync cd with it...also, the snap sync will not work with the BM samsungs...one of my co-workers already tried.

Actually, there is Kyocera software for the 2255 and the 5135 available from Bell Mobility or Kyocera directly (different than the 7135, which uses Palm OS as you mentioned). While I have this software for the 2255 from Kyocera, I was also able to use the Futuredial software to back up and write to the Kyocera.

As well, there is software for the Audiovox models (I can not remember the name), as a coworker of mine worked with our Bell Rep to get it from Audiovox.

Maybe it is something that Bell added after the initial launch, but when I got my Kyocera 2255, I also got the Digital Data 2 Go kit, and there was no sync software - I had to purchase that seperately.

As for the Futuredial and Bell Samsungs - that sucks! I was hoping that it might be the same as the Kyoceras (works - just not supported!). Oh well, my quest continues.

You have two options. The Data To Go kit from Bell Mobility which comes with the software and we also carry the original cable from Kyocera. I haven't tried it, but on the original from Kyocera it says that it's compatible with Outlook and it comes with the software.

As mentioned, I have the Kyocera software, and it works great for my 2255. However, the screen on it has started to flicker, and since it is over a year, I am sure it is out of warrenty, so I am assuming the repair costs would be more than a replacement phone.

At one stage, I was all set to drop the money on the 7135 (as I think that that phone is the best attempt at convergence to date), but then my current Kyocera started to have issues just after the 1 year mark, as well as the number of replacement Palms I have had to get over the years, and I have started to reconsider my thinking on getting a convergence device at this point.

Not sure what I will end up with - I was hoping that the futuredial software would work with the Samsungs, as it does with the Kyocera, but from what DirtyJeffer says, that is not in the cards. Not sure what I will end up with - have some research to do. In the end, I may have to give up the ability to backup my phonebook - which would suck, but what can one do?

Another option is to wait for the Kyocera 3245, which should have all the options of the 2255 and more, and not as pricy as the 7135. Most stores offer extended warranties (3 yrs total) which would be the safest bet if you want a 7135 or any other phone with the sync option.

As long as it's a manufacturer defect, you're covered in the warranty.

Either than that, I wish you good luck in your hunt.

Well, I can't wait too long as I need a functioning phone for work - but I will check out the 3245 (all I really want is the ability to backup the phonebook - I can live without the syncing to Outlook).

I was kind of hoping the futuredial sw would work - 'cuz I did like the look of the n400 (liked my old 3530 as well!). Oh well!

Appreciate the thought - I am sure I will post when I finally figure out what to get.

Has anyone been able to sync an a460 with a PC?

My rep is saying that it can be done with SnapSync software with a the SnapSync cable.

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

snap sync does not work with bell phones.

Reps never lie, I am surprised...

Is there any solution? Or do I have to switch handsets

then get your rep to buy it and try it for you, that way you aren't out any money when you realize it doesn't work.

one of my co-workers bought it for his A460 and it didn't work...he emailed snapsync about it and they said they didn't support canadian phones.

Thanks I will ask the rep to purchase it from futuredial.

I will contact DataPilot and let you guys know what the results are.

Here is the response from DataPilot:

To use DataPilot with the A460, make sure that your handset has the proper software versions ("VD26" or "VK04"). You can check this by pressing "Menu", "8 - Setup/Tool", "1 - Display", "5 - Version". Look at the line starting with "S:A460". If you see either "S:A460 VD26" or "S:A460 VK04" then you have the right firmware to work with DataPilot. If you see "S:A460 VJ25" then we are unable to support this phone due to Samsung not giving us the necessary specs to make the phone compatible.

Does anyone know if this firmware is available from Bell? I have the firmware version: "S:A460 VJ25"
