W995 doesn't alert me to new messages!

Hi
My new W995 doesn't alert me to new messages. it doesn't play a sound (yes, I've set it to play a sound) and the phone is not on silent. It doesn't show the new message icon either. Only way I know I've got a new message is by going into the messages screen.
It's driving me mad! Please help...

Did you see a yellow text msg icon, next to the signal bar?

Did it pop up as a new event?

Try a master reset if needed.
(use SE PC suite to back-up and restore, if you like)

Hi there, thanks for your help. BTW, no little icon or message alert. Took your advice and reset the phone. Seems to be working ok now. Strange how a brand new phone can have issues like that straight out of the box. Hopefully I won't encounter any more problems as I love my new phone!

My phone did exactly the same thing, and it is only a week old! so annoying because you never know if you have a new msg unless you go into New Events or your Inbox.
I just switched my phone off and on and it is working perfectly fine now

Hi there, thanks for your response. I ended up resetting the phone to factory settings and that fixed the problem. It's been great since then.

would be helpful if you guys would:

indicate your location (where in the world are you?) and who your carrier is

indicate which W995(a) or (i) you have.
