Hey all, I just got my hands on my brothers old 8130 pearl but cant use it till atleast October when the billing period ends and the ESN is freed for transfer to anothe account, in the meantime, I am trying ti get additional themes onto my pearl and i cant seem to get the desktop software to add them, i have the 4.5 update installed (first thing I did).

I do not plan on having a data plan on my current contract which ends in a year but would love customize the phone...

is there a way top add themes to the phone without having to do it from the handset over the air (which would require a minimum of the $35 data addon to get the browser usage)...?

If you installed the update, then you have the software. Desktop Manager is how you can add them.

any idea how? i went thru the area that adds or removes applications and that didnt work. is there another way?

Add/Remove application is how you do it. Once you download the file to the desktop, unzip it, and open up DM, and click Add/Remove. A box will pop up, and find the named file of the theme that you want to install. I cannot remember if you add the .alx or .cod file. I think it is the .alx file.

I have been trying to do the following:

How to Install Jar/Jad Files from your SD Card or Internal Memory
1. Open the media manager and click the menu button
2. Then select explore and find the JAR file on your BlackBerry
3. You then click on the JAR file and you will be shown the installation prompt just like you would if you installed the application OTA

however I can't get it to work as it keeys saying error 907 COD file invalid or not found.

any workarounds? I have found some nice themes that are JAD only (OTA), however i found a nice one called android here:

which does install by USB thanks to your post about the alx file...

Not sure what to tell you about the downloading OTA workaround. I have a data plan, so I have never run into that.

i got it working...

I had to browse to the site directory containing the JAD file and download all the other COD files in the directory to get it to install properly... from looking at the contents of the JAD file in notepad it doesn't seem to point to web addresses to download these other COD files (I don't know how OTA installs work, since I can't use them with no data plan)....
