Sprint/Nextel is holding me hostage for $$$ or more contract

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I got around the first obstacle at the service center when they told me the couldn't activate my internet bought cell phone replacement, but now I can't seem to get my contact from my old phone to the new one. Screens busted right off. Tried copying to SIM, but not working. I need to download via USB.

I see a lot of jargon on this site about the illegality of software to manipulate cell phones.

Some have alluded to the idea of errant users bringing the whole system down.

I'd like to ask "How many people are being held hostage by their provider to either buy a new phone or extend their contract?"

Additionally, who's the crook here? Two sides---

The so-called hack who is just trying to repair his own phone and muddle through his daily droll, or the Big Man who holds all the paper and keys?

After all, isn't a hack just somebody who doesn't work for but has been named by the Big Man?

Actually, I'm not being held by Big Man, I'm being held by one of his non-working little pip-squeaks that couldn't work his/her way out of a wet paper sack, but will gladly cozy up to Big Man for the tiniest scraps that he's willing to toss out. Then they'll use that power position to twist the nipples of the rest of us. Kinda like the helicopter driver in Thunderdome.

I've been a user since '90. Same BS.

Scum, riding on the coat-tails of somebody else.

Just so I understand, you're being "held hostage" because you can't figure out how to get contacts from one phone to another. And its Sprint/Nextel's fault that your phone is broken, too. I see....

A Google search can most likely get you started...

Since you're posting in the Nextel forum, haven't specified what phone you have (but you do mention a SIM), I'll guess that you're using an iDEN phone. If that's the case, isn't this as simple as moving the SIM from the old phone to the new phone?

If not, you'll need to provide more details in order to get any help.

My thoughts exactly.. How is it the carriers fault that you signed a contract, then your phone broke? I can't see how it is someone elses problem...

Thanks morningpride for the response, apparently you've misinterpereted.

Sprint Help even agrees that their own retailers are less than helpful when it comes to doing anything other than buying a new phone or extending a contract. In fact, I was told by Help that insisting on service would be advisable.

Thus the pip-squeak reference, and my mention of the success that I found in activating the new phone. I did get tired of beating my head against the wall on the Contacts transfer and graciously expressed my gratitude as I exited the store(s) having already decided that there must be an easier way even it involves a trip to Antartica on foot.

How is it someone elses problem, well it's not, its mine. It's my problem to figure out what how to get my provider to do what they are contractually obligated to do without pissing anyone off and potentially black-marking my name/account.

Therein lies the "hostage" allusion. If you can't see it, the simply don't comment on it.

If you've got helpful advice, then I'll gladly take that.

I'm looking for software that I can use to talk to my phone through my PC. Specifically to upload/download contacts through the USB port. Doing the same to text messages would be nice too, after all, I do own them and the place they're stored. I should be able to have free access to them. My phone is a Motorola ic502 that was implemented by Sprint/Nextel.

Have you tried the motorola phone tools?

My man, i am sorry for my attitude. The sprint store should have a sim card copier to copy your contacts. The 502 stores all it's info on the iDEN sim. I don't believe that you can retrieve any text off of the CDMA side of the unit. And by the way, you are dead on about the sprint store employees!

No sweat, in a world full of whiners who most often won't take step one on their own towards solving an issue I can understand a programmed response.

I've bought Phone Tools, and I will try mimicing my phone as a model V323 as I've seen suggested numerous times on this site and others.

We'll see

exactly what i was thinking! they should have a sim card copier! most time its yellow! i assume your trying get it from one iden phone to another! you can even buy them off ebay! i got one from work.

SIM copier is a good idea, problem is, ic502 doesn't automatically store to SIM. This task must be accomplished manually, and since the screen is broken completely off my old phone, all I can do on that avenue is try to follow the steps on the new phone and hope that I can get teh old one to copy to the SIM.

I've tried it a few times, but unsuccessful.

Seems to me that I should be able to talk to the phone via my PC. For this I've purchased Motorola Phone Tools. However, it's kinda if'y as to whether it will work or not. We'll see.

My whole point is this........there must be some type of software out there that allows me to talk to my ic502 through my PC. After all, Sprint did it at least one time when I bought the phone.

Whenever I try to talk to anyone about it, they run and hide (figuratively). When they come out, they pretend to know nothing and calmly/insistantly direct me to the sales counter.

What kind of service is that?

I'm up and running with the new phone, but no contacts. This has come down to principle for me and I WILL find a solution.

Um, I used martin_j001's suggestion and guess what I found?

A thread with links from our very own forum . Maybe this will help?

If that thread doesn't help, you may find others.

Its been a while since I did a icxxx, but If I remeber right phone works like a Sprint right? Try bitpim or Datapilot. Or locate a store in your are that uses a Cellebrite. From what I read in another thread Sprint stores where all supplied with a Cellbrite.

Thanks for the suggestions--

I haven't followed this thread for a few weeks since I purchased a copy of Motorola Phone Tools. Although this is not a direct solution, it is possible to mimic the ic502 as a V323 model and accomplish the upload/download of contact info.

Still looking for a method of transferring text messages.

Thanks

Bitpim is free try that, in Datapilot its based per phone look it up online to see if your phone is compatible.
