I'm thinking abouy buying a sanyo 8100

is this phone worth getting? I heard that is has a loud earpiece even on the lowest setting...how does this phone stack up against the bigger sanyo 5300? I heard that the only differences the 8100 has over th 5300 is that it's smaller and it's camera doesn't have flash unlike the 5300...is the sanyo 8100 the best bet for sprint now our days?

i have it and i love it, but i've only it for a few days now. i can't find anything wrong with it as of yet, other than the camera having no flash. but it hasn't bothered me much.

First off let me say this topic has been dicsussed all over the place. So if you don't get enough answers in this thread look a bit deeper using the search button and you'll find tons of comparisons.

That being said, I've had both and I prefer the 8100. It's really all about personal preference though. You do sacracfice a few things with the 8100. No flash, less resolution with the camera. But you gain smaller size, colors to choose from, much lower price, etc. The determining factor for me is the size. I much prefer the smaller scale of the 8100.

I suggest you go to somewhere that has them both in stock so you can look at them side by side and see which one YOU prefer.

FYI, the speaker volume on the 8100 is WAY loud. Sometimes when I'm in a quiet area I find that I actually have to hold the phone away from my ear because it's so loud. Never, ever, had to do that with any cell phone before.

I see that you're jewish...I'm jewish as well, but back to what you said...I'm most likely gonna get the sanyo 8100 because it's cheap and it's one hell of a phone from the reviews that I read about it...do you consider the earpiece loudness a pro or a con?

I definetly consider the earpiece volume a major plus. I really can't stand phones which you can't hear while in a crowded location. I had this problem with the Samsung S105. While walking through the streets of NYC I couldn't hear very well.

You see that I'm Jewish? Last name gave it away I guess.

Shalom.

I was just curious if the earpiece would blow my ear drum out or not I guess...it is better having a loud earpiece rather than an earpiece like the 5300 which makes it hard for you to hear sometimes...I'm not a religious jew and I know no hebrew, but shalom right back at cha...

It's not that loud. I always keep it on the highest ear piece volume setting, so if you find the speaker hurts your ear simply lower the volume level.

I don't know hebrew either, just threw the "shalom" at you for kicks.

I just now noticed you also had the motorola i95 lgreenberg...this may not be a fair comparison, but in terms of reception and a better color screen and better battery life which phone is better the motorola i95 or the sanyo 8100?

Sanyo 8100 vs. Motorola i95cl

1. Reception: I really don't like to make these sort of comparison since reception is more a function of the provider than the phone in this case. I'd say it's pretty close though. Nextel and Sprint both have very good coverage in the areas I am in. The i95cl does suffer from signal jumping, where it goes from full service to little or no service, back to full service in a matter of seconds, while sitting in the same place. I have not seen this with the 8100.

2. Color screen: The 8100's screen is far nicer to look at.

3. Battery life: I have been very pleased with the 8100's battery life. I'd have to say it is better than the the i95.

Granted Nextel phone's are not the greatest. But they have two features which the 8100 does not.

1. A speaker phone and 2. Direct Connect.

What??? Man I keep mine on the lowest and it is more than enough for me. This thing is LOUD.

Yeah, that was my point.

I keep mine on the highest setting at it's sometimes too loud, therefore for the average person a lower setting would be more than enough volume.

I got my 5300 a few days ago. Before buying it I remember reading alot of people complained about its volume sucking. When i bought it, i asked them to see if it had the most recent software on it, and naturally it didnt. Well, I have to say, I'm not sure if it was the upgrade or not, but when I have the volume on it set to high, I sometimes find it too loud.

Before I got my 5300, I was torn between getting the 8100 or the 5300. In the end, because of the deal I was offered, I got the 5300. I am quite satisfied with the phone, and would reccommend it to anyone.

is it fair to say that the sanyo 8100 has the nicest color screen out of all the phones now our days?

Posted by: ewod

I'm really turned off by the sanyo 5300's size...I don't like flip flop phones that are particularly rather big...

No, I think it's fair to say the Sanyo 8100 has one of the nicest color screens of all the phones now and days.

It's a decent phone. IMO, the LGVX400 and the Samsung A530 are the best phones for Verizon right now. The biggest thing about the Samsung is no analog. If you live in an area where you get constant digital coverage this isn't an issue but for some it is.

from what you've seen and have experienced and heard about are lg's better than samsungs quality and reception wise? I think you mean the lgvx4400 lgreenberg...

They're about the same as far as reception goes except for what I said before. The A530 will not get reception in an analog only area where the LG VX4400 will.

I do think the Samsung in a better built, more sturdier phone than the LG.

P.S. Thanks for the correction, typo I guess.

to me it isn't that much bigger to even matter... Plus once you get used to the bigger screen of the 5300 (which makes up for the slight bigger size) you'd never want the smaller screen of the 5300...

Dude, LG.. that's mean!

You're making me want to drive over to the electronics store and buy an 8100 and activate it.. as much as I hate Sprint for customer service reasons...

Maybe I'll just buy the phone cause it's nifty cool.. heh

my sister has the i95 digitaljem and I think it's a very cool phone so don't take it back since you already have it...there are a lot of things I like about the i95 that many other phone don't have...if I had nextel the i95 would be the phone I would get because the i95 is their best phone...the only thing I don't like about nextel is their plans and it seems all of them you have to pay a lot of money for and since I don't use phones that often (just for emergencies and what not) I think sprint has plans that are right for me...

I never said I was anywhere near thinking about taking the i95 back you must have been reading something else..heh

Nextel really isn't much more than Sprint. I mean if you consider $15 or so a month more then yea.. but I personally don't. I have more than enough minutes to use and customer service at Nextel seems to be alot better than when I was with Sprint.

You say "When your contract with Nextel is up".. that's funny. I've been with them for 2+ years now, and have not once thought about cancelling my service or replacing them with another provider. If you knew how picky I was you would be like.. "wow, 2 years, and you're still there.. ".. Going on that fact, I don't think I'll be leaving Nextel anytime soon. I might however add Sprint as a backup provider for when I am in non-coverage areas, which is what I would ge tthe 8100 for
