I just ordered my 5300 and was wondering what the pros/cons are - I paid $300, and I am going to order the usb cable to go online with my laptop. Do i need the snap dialer software to do this ? I have the sprint connection manager software already! please post with opinions/facts. Also can i download free screen savers/ringtones/ect anywhere on the web ? web sites would be helpful. Also is the connection speed descent with the use of the 5300 + laptop ?

There are several sites for downloading screen savers, ringtones etc. Many of them are listed in the Sprint PCS forum, I suggest you have a look there.

I use www3gupload.com

I'm sure you'll be very happy with your new phone.

1. Do a search on the 5300 you will find more info on the phone than you will know what to do with.

2. No, you don't need the snapdialer or the Sprint software to connect to the internet with you laptop. You can setup a connection using the dialer in windows. For more info please do a search, or search the forums at sprintusers.com.

3. lgreenberg is correct about games, ringtones, & wscreen savers. Click here for a list from sprintusers.com with sites that have games, ringtones, & screen savers for Vision phones.

4. The connection speed is good, but it will depend on the area you live in. In SoCal I average about 40K-90K. Some people say they don't go below 100K, it just depends.

I never actually had the sanyo 5300, but from what I read about it I don't like it and the phone being 400 dollars makes me feel even more that way...the only good thing about the phone is the camera from what I hear...a lot of people have complained about its earpiece being kinda low and hard to hear even at its highest setting...the sanyo 8100 is basically the same phone, but with a less cooler camera and a way louder earpiece...

As stated in another forum, the latest software update seems to fix the low volume problem, mine is so loud at times, i HAVE to lower it. The camera is a bit better then the 8100 and the flash does make a difference for indoor shots. The screen on the 5300 is ALOT bigger than the 8100, and trust me you will get used to it. That's what makes it a little bigger, but not by much. And if you were to hold and use both phones, you can tell the 5300 is a bit more solidly built. It just depends on what you have as a spending limit to work with, and how bad you really want one more than the other. Either way, you're getting a great phone.

I just don't like the size of the 5300...I say for 400 bucks it's a complete ripoff...I seen the size of the 5300 and it's much bigger than the 8100 in my opinion...I'm not saying the sanyo 8100 is better than the sanyo 5300 because of its size, but size does matter if you plan on keeping the phone in your pocket when you go out...

so for outdoor shots the sanyo 5300 and the sanyo 8100 take about the same pictures? I'm not that familiar with cameras, so please help if you can...do you need flash for a camera when you take a picture outside? I'm talking about in the daytime btw...

I would agree with you that for $400 it's alot of money, but I say the 8100 is alot for $200 so...

The original poster said he paid $300, I'm assumign he got the $100 off as a new customer. For $300 I feel it's a good phone, but to each's own. Actually if you look at the specs, the 8100 is thicker than the 5300 where the 5300 is taller than the 8100. Would something like 4/10ths" matter to me, no but that's me. Let's end this and say everyone likes what they like haha.

As for the flash, I'm no expert photographer either... I know on my regular camera the flash matters inside for daytime shots if it is a bit overcast, but i dont think this litle flash matter much for that. It's probably suited best for indoor dark or outdoor night and if the object is relatively close like 3 feet...

I just paid $99 for my 8100.

$99 vs. $300 is a big difference.

you're a new sprint customer lgreenberg? I thought it's only 99 dollars for people who are new sprint customers...correct me if I'm wrong...I know it's 200 for existing sprint customers...

I wouldn't really say that 200 is a lot to pay for a phone...most phones that I see now our days are around 200 for the most part...200 dollars is a fair price when comparing it to a phone that is 200 dollars more and is basically the same phone as the 200 dollar one, but it has a camera with flash...400 is way to much to pay for a phone and the sanyo 5300 isn't worth the 400 dollars or the camera for that matter...

Everyone likes something different and everyone has their own opinions about each phone...

I got my 5300, from a sprint store, for $249 with a holster and CLA thrown in. The 8100 still would have been $99. If I had to do it again, i'd still go with the 5300 to have the bigger screen, a more solidly built phone, and flash when I need it.

I say if you like the 8100 there isnt anything wrong with that. I'm agreeing with you that the 8100 is also a great phone for $99, it's just not my preference. Wanna keep this up all day?

yeah why not lol if it's not your preference than it's cool, but I still think you're getting more for your money if you buy the sanyo 8100...have a drink on me paradox...

Posted by: Paradox

Ok, but you're betting a more solid built phone for your money Now where's that drink!

I think you're in desperate need of a drink my friend...cheers sanyo 8100 still rules over the 5300...

I just bought a Sanyo 5300 from Costco for almost the same price as an 8100. I paid $249 for the phone, minus the 100 mail-in-rebate makes it $149, then Costco waives the $35 activation fee, throws in 15 months of free voice command, and a free lifetime protection plan on the phone (different from the handset insurance from sprint). That would make it a better deal than the 8100 in my opinion. Just letting you all know about the great deal there.
