Don't know if this is the right place to ask.

I have an old Nokia5300, you know the expressmusic phone. It's a cheap phone but I'm going to use it for now until I get a real phone.

Anyways I was putting on a different keypad today, and my little knifed scratched up the "GSM antenna" pretty badly.

This antenna is just a green flexible, flex cable like thing, with one circuit, and i scratched a whole piece of copper?silicon? off, and it doesnt even look like its completeing the connection.

But the phone still works and has reception, what exactly did i do?

Here is what it looks like, basically you see how there is a loop, I broke the loop with the knife scratch. But I can still receive/send calls. How the hell does this thing work? Will the reception be hindered?

The circuit is protected by a thin coat (not sure if it's silicone or plastic) to prevent oxidation and short circuits.
Since your phone still has reception, you probably didn't sever the circuit. Most likely you just grazed the protective coat.

No worries.
