I Transferred $30 Unlimited Data to HSPA+

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: JAKEHEARTSMAC

I didn't think you could do it but I was in a Bell Corporate Store and transferred my plan. I'm enjoying unlimited data on HSPA and it works like a charm on my new Blackberry Bold 9700!

Posted by: totti_07

if thats the case im sold!

Posted by: eric2k

I wish i got the Unlimited plan now :P

Posted by: BB.est07

If a second person can confirm this and after the first bill on HSDPA shows no changes or irregularities, I will be one happy camper. From the other thread, there was an impression that it would not be possible and I accepted it and was looking for the Tour2 but if what OP says is true, 9700 here I come!

Posted by: totti_07

my bell rep just confirmed it with the bell helpdesk

Posted by: JAKEHEARTSMAC

Trust me I wouldn't lie! I don't want people to hate me lol

Unlimited on a blackberry isn't that big of a deal. Bell wouldn't have a problem with allowing that on the new network.

It's the other smartphones you need to be concerned about. According to bell.ca, you can order an Omnia II with the student plan 50 that has unlimited. So either it's all the non-iPhone devices that can use the grandfathered unlimited, or it's a mistake on the website.

Blackberry or smartphone though, what you need to be concerned with is your first bill after the change. Make sure you don't get charged data at the pay per use rate.

Just because the service books in your grandfathered package is allowing you to use data, doesn't mean the other part of the package is actually covering your usage.

Well, if its any indication. I just been using my C905 with Google sync running for a bout 3-4 hours. Checked my unbilled usage. All the data was listed under Unlimited! SWEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!! Unlocking Magic tonight!!!!!!!

Ok guys now I'm scared. I'm a new Bell customer, Started on October 30th. I got the 60 dollar combo plan AT THE TIME, which SHOULD have been UNLIMITED data. Now I check on their site, 60 bucks for 2GB!!!!!

My question is, does the unlim data from when I subscribed pass on? (This is the meaning of 'grandfathered' right?) or am I subject to changes? I took out the contract just to double check and see if maybe I had subscribed to 2gb, but its showing Unlim Email and Internet!

Also, I got this through a Future Shop. People seeing my other thread knows I'm trying to exchange my Tour for the new Bold. Will the new Bold work on the HSPA network? or will I be stuck on the 1XEV network that I'm constantly picking up reception on?

You will be grandfathered in.

@ Sammy, is there a rep button on this forum? You seriously deserve mine.

So, I can expect the new Bold to work on the HSPA network? (Like you know from my thread, assuming FS exchanges my phone?) And the data I use will be billed as unlimited?

Unfortunately not.

Yes.

If what rumored in this thread holds true, then yes.

Alrighty then. Wish me luck! I'll make sure to share my experience if everything works out.

Its true
The normal data socs are compatible

Posted by: DarK_Breaka

Can anyone verify if tethering is possible with the Unlimited BB Data socs? Also, can anyone verify as well whether or not pay-per use data charges will be incurred when using a non-BB data device on a BB Data Soc.

If like Rogers, then hopefully everything will have a happy ending where data is data.

**crosses fingers**

I contacted Bell late this afternoon and was advised that I can take my unlimited $30 plan over to HSPA. I was even told that I could switch from my unlimited pda plan to the unlimited $30 Blackberry data plan.

As always, you need to take all of the information a Bell rep provides with a spoon full of salt.

Tethering is only included on the 500mb, 1gb, 3gb plans.

WinMo/Palm one, but same idea.

I have a cunundrum(sp?) of an idea. Moving forward, if one was to get bb data plan could they just swap sim into a non bb and still use the same data plan? Rogers 6GB PDA and BB; the only difference was the BIS service being turned on. Something that we eventually figured out could be done after the fact without changing your plan.

iPhone/Windows/Palm/Non-Bell Branded Phones/Bell Branded Phones* all can use the same data package.
Blackberries need their own data package.
Turbo Sticks need their own data package.

*You would get this if you want to switch between, say, a LG Xenon and an iPhone.

Pay-per-use data is capped at $50/mo.

Same here. But that's what Rogers told us last year too, but the plans were allowed to cross. IE: the apn for bb and others are the same. Only difference was the BIS SOC code. (I work at T booth)

Posted by: doan_1

Soooo..... Waiting until my actual billing. But I set up tethering on my C905 over bluetooth using pda.bell.ca. Guess what! Its worked! And nothing extra has showed on my unbilled usage.

Hi,

I hope this question fits in here ( this is the first thread I saw where tethering was mentioned )- but please advise if it doesn't: I have an HTC Touch Pro with Unlimited Data ( I guess it's the unlimited data $30.00 plan, it's part of a Preferred 25 EPP ). I also have a turbo stick - signed up when they were first offered, I think it was a promo deal -it's a 12 month contract I can keep extending by the year, and it's the flex rate data plan - meaning the stick was free, and I pay $10.00/month when I don't use it, and more than that in the Summer when I was using about 2 - 3 GB's of data a month on my laptop at the cottage.

My question is - is there some kind of device and plan I could combine this on with the HSPA network. I hardly use the internet at all on my phone - because I still found the EVDO network and the Touch Pro combo pretty slow...I don't think I'd use it that much more no matter what phone or internet speed I had...it's just not something I use much. And I probably average one text message a day - and have no intereest in any type of live ( "push-through" ? ) email. But I did really like the turbo stick, I was quite impressed with how well it worked with my laptop on the EVDO network at my cottage - but obviously I would think by next summer, I'll be wanting HSPA speed on my turbo stick.

I've just passed 12 months of use on my 3 year Preferred 25 Touch Pro contract - and I'm about halfway through my one year turbo stick contract. I'd estimate that in Summer when I was using the turbo stick a lot - my two Bell invoices totalled about $ 120.00 /month ( about $ 65.00/month for the HTC touch pro, and $ 50.00-60.00 for the turbo stick ). Is there any ONE device and PLAN that would do the same for me ? I'm not too concerned about lowering my monthly costs - but rather just something simpler, that I could use on the faster HSPA network.

Thanks for any help / advice you can give me.

Getting a new ROM for the Touch Pro (such as NFSFAN's TP ROM) will help alot with the speed issues of the Touch Pro.

Hi guys , Just got my Bell Ipone 3GS with no problem to transfer my corp 50 unlimited data.

Posted by: GRANDISON

Can someone confirm if tethering will work with the unlimited plan for 30$ (on hspa)?

No you can't.

Posted by: JAKEHEARTSMAC

Now that I seriously think about it, I don't need a Blackberry Data Plan because I gave my Blackberry to my brother, and because if I swap my sim into a regular phone I'll incur PPU data charges. Do you think they'll change their mind about disregarding that data is data? If not, do you think Bell would let me transfer to the Unlimited PDA Data Package from the one I have now? I wanna get an iPhone!

Hi MStar,

Thanks for your reply - does NFSFAN's TP ROM actually help with the internet connection speed, or will it just make the TP less "laggy" than before ?

thanks,

mookie

Can you please explain? What's your total bill now? What phone did you get?

I have an enbridge plan with an HJTC touch. My bill is about $21 amonth and I get UNL data plus 300 minutes plus UNL weekends and nights.

Can I transfer my plan to a SIM plan? Will my montly fee remain the same?

I'm getting excellent connection speeds with it.

This would be the thread to check out

Just another reason to choose Bell.

Read the whole thread from the Telus forum.

But just in case, I'm getting the Samsung Omnia II tomorrow and transferring my plan including my unlimited $30 data to the HSPA one. Just until the HTC HD II comes out.

Is that all data or just on device?

Just curious, maybe dumb question. I am with bell on cdma and I'm thinking of switching to the new network. I hear people talking about unlimited data, I am a light user and would never go over my 500 mb per month. Will this apply on new network, or wiill they differ my data charges? I guess what I mean are the charges at a different rate? So, if I keep same use, then I should jhave no problem? thanks for any info

500mb is 500mb whether it's on CDMA or HSPA. Some phones will go through data quicker than others. On a Blackberry it would be pretty hard to hit 500mb unless you were constantly streaming. It wouldn't be as hard on an iPhone though.
