Moto Droid modifications needed to run on Sprint.

I have heard that over the last year sprint and Verizon have been more open and agreed to 'unlock' their phones at customer request.

The long and short of my question is what software modifications would need to be made to the mototola droid in order for it to run on sprint?

My untechnical understanding of this is that someone would have to implement sprints proprietary network protocols somewhere deep in android 2.0 s underbelly.

Is it too big of a leap to think that Sprint's hero Rom would have most of the necessary software in there somewhere?

Sorry if this is in an inappropriate forum but it seemmed to me the best place since the question revolves around changing the software on a specific handset. Thanks in advance.

BTW, does anyone know a good Android IRC channel?

Sprint as of now, will not allow any non Sprint branded phones onto their network. That may change in the future, but for now, it is a lost cause.
