First off sorry, I am a newbie, and I do not no much about phones... probably this sites worst nightmare as you seems to know lots.

1. When i try to connect to vodafone live with my GD87, it immediatly says connection failed, the GPRS is activated, apparently. Why does this happen? anyway to fix it?

2. When I'm trying to use crack2d to unlock the phone, I try to 'get the codes' but when I switch my phone on, like it says I get a "Timed out", I am using a USB cable - the MA something or other, is this the reason?

3. I am pretty sure I have the A16 software/firmware, but would like to get this A39 I hear of, with no camera sound and more sms space. How would I go about doing this?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

(1)check your vodafone browser settings
(2)You got to change the Port setting to Com1 instead of other Com Ports. Start/Control panel/system/hardware/device manager/Ports(double click on it)/find usb port/double click it/port settings/advanced/change port number to 1 then ok
(3)look around this forum. search for a39.
Good luck

1) It's something in the configuation - the settings are as follows:

Profile Name: Vodafone GPRS (or whatever...)
Home URL: http://wap:1999/vodafone.wml
Linger Time: 240
Gateway IP: 212.183.137.012
Security: Non Secure
Bearer: GPRS
AccessPointName: wap.vodafone.co.uk
User ID: wap
User Password: wap
Authentication: Normal

This is assuming that you're a contract customer - if you're on PAYT, then all the settings are the same except the APN, which is "pp.vodafone.co.uk"

For the MMS profile, use the following:

Profile Name: Vodafone MMS (or whatever...)
Server URL: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
Gateway IP: 212.183.137.012
Bearer: GPRS
AccessPointName: wap.vodafone.co.uk
User ID: wap
User Password: wap
Authentication: Normal

Again, use "pp.vodafone.co.uk" for PAYT

2) First of all, it won't work if you have a firmware version later than A22, so check it as follows: turn on phone, then immediately type *#9999# - if you do it right, the final "#" won't echo. A few seconds later you get a screen with the firmware version on it:

A2A3GAD87A16-16 <- The software version is A16. The first 4 digits are a checksum, and will probably be different.

If you have the right firmware, then try insulating pins 4 and 10 on the phone connector (they are numbered from the left with the connector facing you and the phone keyboard up). It's also worth noting that you need to push the power button on the phone just the right length of time.

3) Have a look at some of the earlier posts - there are basically five things you need:
1) The firmware and matching language pack
2) The panasonic download program - WinMoDo (beta .10 or later)
3) The service program (CB 2000)
4) A communications cable
5) A willingless to invalidate your warranty

Items 1 through 3 should be downloadable from somewhere on the net (if you can't find them, just say so, and I'm sure someone will send you them). Items 4 and 5 you will need to supply yourself.

The basic proceedure is as follows:

1) Fully charge your battery
2) Insulate pins 4+10 on the phone
3) Start WinMoDo and load in the firmware and the language pack
4) Click the start button, and press power on the phone.
5) Wait. Do not remove the phone battery because you think it's locked up - the flash will take about 15-20 minutes, and appears to be doing nothing at all for about the first 60-80 seconds.
6) When the download finishes, check that it completed OK, if not, then try flashing again.
7) Start CB2000, click the "mobile power" button, and then press the power button on the phone. You should get some red text on the phone screen.
8) In CB2000 go to write data/mobile variant/settings/function clear, and wait for the "MMI reset completed" on the phone screen.
9) Close the dialog boxes, click the mobile power button again to turn it off, and turn the phone off. Then turn the phone back on.

At this point, you will need to reenter stuff like the WAP and MMS settings, since they will have been deleted.

Well, that's the basic proceedure, but there are much better explanatations in other threads.

hi, thanks for the advice. However I can't find the accesspointname, user id, user password or authentication, where are these found? my connection keeps failing instantly.

Also how would I go about insulating pins 4 and 10? i'm not quite sure what you meant by that, thanks. Also, are you sure this works on USB?

thanks.

The APN, user ID, etc are found by selecting the BearerType menu, then selecting GPRS, and choosing "edit" from the menu.

Basically, you need to do BearerType/GPRS/Set then BearerType/GPRS/Edit and set the parameters.

The easiest way of isolating the pins is to cut a strip of tape slightly wider than the contacts on the phone, and to stick that over the contacts. Just make sure that the adjacent pins aren't connected, or the cable won't work correctly.

All the USB cables I've seen are basically serial cables with a built in USB->serial converter. If your cable is this type (like the "Mobile Action" cables), then it will work.

I used to have this working before , now for some reason .. it says connection failed too. I think I might've done something in CB2000 that I wasn't aware of. Is there a way to reset the phone and make it just like before ?

The only thing I can suggest is to do a function clear/memory reset in CB2K, reenter the WAP information and see if that works. It worked for me the time I got my phone scrambled.
