Yellow Exclamation Symbol on the P800!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey guys

i really really need help this time.

I'm in Bombay, India. I bought a local prepaid Orange Chip here.

I dont think the chip is the problem, i think there is a problem with my P800, cuz the sim works fine in my brother's T68.

Heres the problem, whenever i call someone, or recieve a call after talking to the person for a few seconds (like under 10 seconds) i hear a beep. And when i look on the screen , i see a small yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it(see the topic sentence, the icon next to it is the one i get on my phone!). After this, the person on the other end cannot hear me while i can hear them clearly.

I have looked up the manual online, but i could not find anything and i dint bring along the hard copy of the manual.

Can someone please help me~!

till i get this fixed, i cant use my phone at all!

thanks in advance

I got that once on the 2nd day of owning it... I woke up and the phone was all light up and there was some animated yellow triangle with an exclamation mark and a hand pointing to something... phone was all locked up...

Then I just pulled the battery and put it back in and never saw it again. Yet... didn't think it would be an issue unless it happens continuously.

Looks like yours is stuck like that?

Ummm.... I think pulling out the battery is bad... I rarely get that anymore (after I upgraded my firmware). I used to just keep the on button pressed for 10 seconds and it would reset. (no data loss)

...Yes, it should be an animated picture showing that you need to press and hold the power button for 10 seconds...this resets the phone. Then you can turn it back on.

I used to get a lot of those (kernel panics), but I sent my phone in for a software update and since then I have not experience one.

hahaha.. ya I remember the 10sec part... now too.... I had no idea... I was pissed off more or less cause I was only day 2 into owning it... but since then, nothing.

I'm on firmware R1D right now but I'd rather wait for the next firmware b4 upgrading.

Yes, this is exactly what the animation is telling you to do.

I also wish i could say the same, that I don't see this warning anymore but it was only yesterday it appeared for me and I'm on R2D with 4.5 meg free on my c drive. I have no idea why mine crashed.

Sad to say that the reset screen on my phone comes up quite a bit if I turn on email alerts. I have updated to R2 and it helped but it still does it. I get about 3 to 10 email an hour and if I go through a low signal area, it is a guaranteed crash when an alert comes in. I can also get the phone to crash by going too fast playing solitare. Just try to back up moves too quickly and sometimes the phone crashes. Maybe the next upgrade...

sorry to hear that easyrotor... I've been lucky, had it once... but I have used my phone for email... gprs data is simply too expensive in canada... unless I'm missing something.

ever since I got BT syncing to work 75% of the time, I've been happy... I still don't have a clue why it doesn't work sometimes... where the SE link properties doesn't pick up a connected BT serial port connection.

I've been doing a lot of installing, uninstalling of software, moving files and playing all sorts of games, and the thing has performed beautifully... I wish there was less lag between opening applications though.

It was a pretty comon thing, 3 crashes in 2 days for me. But now after 1 1/2 week running solid, I haven't had issues..

Please note that I am running it with R1D !! To me the phone has been stable since I added switcher, this has the big change.

Switcher crashed 3 times(!). Right now it makes me wondering if this little app gets the kernel panics and keeps the phone from crashing. So I only have to restart switcher and can use it again.. but don't have to reboot the phone.

I used a little app like that on my Novell server too. Was awesome, Novell became even more stable...

I would give it a try da_enlightener, it might save you.

I get the animation of death whenever I'm in low (or now) signal areas for extended times. My house just barely has reception. If I have the phone on long enough in that condition, it will crash.

Just in the last 2 days, I'm getting the yellow exclamation mark after 10 seconds on any call. Anyone know why this just started happening? Or how can I fix it? Please help.

Mine did this as well. I plan on upgrading it after I get a P900.

This just started happening to mee this week. Very annoying. Funny thing is, I had a customer come and ask me about the same problem. That beep is real annoying. Maybe it is a Florida thing?

I think you are on to something with respect to a "Florida" thing...

I was getting the small yellow triangle with the excamation point approx 5 -10 sec. into a telephone call last week in South Florida. I was just up in NYC for the past 4 days and the P800 was totally fine. I just flew back to Ft. Lauderdale this evening and the error tone and small yellow triangle with the excamation point has returned with each and every call...

I plan on calling T-Mobile tech support and informing them of the situation and strongly suggest anyone else experiencing this problem do the same...

BTW maybe we should crosspost this thread on the T-Moble Forum...

OK, I just found out what it is. The yellow ! means that "call ciphering is off" It is happening to all T-Mobile phone in the South Florida area. Not sure how it affects us, but the beep on the P800 sure is real annoying as both parties can hear it during a call.

Ok, finally had a chance to talk to T-mobile. They have updated their systems and the yellow symbol doesn't show up anymore. I'm assuming they must have turned ciphering back on.

Hope this worked for everyone else!
