I just got my S40 and out of the box I installed the CD-Rom and then tried to connect to AOL on my laptop using the IrDA Port. What do you know? It connected and I was able to pull up web pages and check mail..
Now I cant get it to connect for the life of me? I tried everything. I either get a fast busy signal or a message from aol saying "Your modem is not accepting AOL's setup commands. "

I also have a Ipaq 3750 that I am trying to get to connect by also using IrDA. And also I get a Fast Busy Siginal or Wrong Username Password. But I think its the way im trying to connect on the Ipaq. Since I was trying to use an AOL # and username and password, but no aol software. Just DUN on PocketPC 2002.
What other way should I connect on the Ipaq if I cant use AOL?

Thanks So Much for the Help...

You can't dial up using the S40 and use AOL as a service provider because AOL requires you to use that dumb-a$$ program they install.

Get a real service provider like Earthlink if that's what you want to do. If you're using IR you know you're limited to 9600 baud right? That's 9.6 Kbps, to get the 14.4 Kpbs your phone company probably maxes out at you need the data cable.

Good luck with that Ipaq too, I've never seen someone using an Ipaq with the S40 successfully. Maybe one phonebook entry at a time.

The IR port can go much faster than 9600 bps. The network standard for a data connection is 9600 bps. However, there are networks with higher speed - HSCSD can support up to 52kbps or something.

HSCSD and IR? That sounds like a winner!

However, even though 50+kbps is correct for the standard, it depends on how many channels down/up that the provider will allow.
