File Manager

I've tried to download the free SE File Manager from my-Symbian for about one week, but the ["URL=http://my-symbian.com/uiq/download/sendfile.php4?DownloadID=3]Try It[/URL] page never loads. Does anyone know any other place to download this freeware? I've tried the SE site but did not find it.

Alternatively, I noticed that when, at the my-Symbian site, I filter for File Manager in the UIQ section, the results page also mentions PC File Manager by Epocware. Has any tried it? Does it have any advantages over the SE freeware File Manager (other than being able to download it)?

TIA. Jeff

That's weird, I downloaded it last week, but it's gone now just as you say.

I found a wap link, no idea if the file is still available there: <wap.allaboutsymbian.com/download/P800/Applications/>

Failing that, I can email it to you if you want to pm me your addy.

The PC File Manager is for managing the files on your P800 *from your PC*, don't know if that is an acceptable substitute for you. Also it is not free...

Thanks. I've pm'd you.

I am sorry I wasn't clear about the Epocware program. I know it is not free. That is not a problem for me if it does something valuable over and above what I already have from the standard software (where my P800 is a node in Windows Explorer).

Thanks again. Jeff

You've got email...

I haven't tried the PC File Manager so don't know if it improves on the existing functionality.

GK -- if the file manager on the SE site is the one that's supplied with the phone (the P800 icon on the desktop) it only gives you access to limited folders on the phone.

The EPOCWARE file manager lets you see EVERYTHING on the phone (which, to me, is more useful). The Epocware has a few minor limitations (it doesn't support drag&drop but you can copy and paste) but I use it all the time.

Hope this helps.

Fellow Studio City resident (and others who have posted), it does help. Let me see if I understand.

The SE file manager, and the one on Tracker for that matter, allow file control on the phone. The Epocware one allows it from your PC, with greater functionality than the one bundled with the phone. Do I see the ?

I've actually found the Epocware PC File Manager to be extremely useful to me.

There were times that I wanted to copy and/or backup and/or rename, delete, etc. files that were on the P800. Some of those operations would have been near-to-impossible without that software.

The P800 icon (the SE, PC File Manager) only really lets you see the folders on the phone that SE thinks you should be "playing" with. Mostly the photos, movies, music, etc. on the internal memory and on a memory stick.

I'd give the Epocware a trial fly. For me, it's been more than worth the price. As I said previously, it'd be nice if it was drag and drop but I suppose that copying, cutting and pasting is almost as good.
