Check your firmware, of course. Biggest heads up seems to be DO NOT fill the phone's internal memory. Seems that if you do, the phone's off to get flashed (to be able to use it again).

Otherwise, the keyword is: PLAY!

Well -- some of the other guys here can give you the pros and cons of the various early firmwares. Just want to make sure that Bluetooth is well supported since there seems to have been significant improvement in that area between some of the early upgrades.

As far as the memory issue is concerned -- seems that if you fill up too much of the internal memory (as opposed to memory card) the P800 just "lays down and dies." Resetting or reformatting the phone appears to have no effect once it's in this condition.

From what I recall, the only solution is to send the phone in to get the firmware flashed (even if it's the latest version and being re-flashed to the same version) since the flashing seems to clear out whatever the problem is.

So, as you begin to add software and/or images, sounds, etc., keep your eye on the memory. I'm not sure what the "safe" point is, but I'd leave a good buffer available as to stay far enough away from trouble.

Get a hefty memory stick so you won't be tempted to overload the internal memory.

thanks alot for the info! =)

will keep an eye out for that..

Welcome to the club Hybrid-JD

Think of your P800 more as a computer than a phone and you’ll understand the comment better.
The internal memory on board the phone is called the C Drive and the external memory which is the Memory Stick Duo is called the D Drive. If you load up the C Drive (with files & Apps) the phones CPU won’t have enough memory left to process properly. If you do, the results can be at best to slooow things down and at worst completely lock up the phone and call for a reformat.

Your P800 should come with a 16 Mb MSD card but I would recommend you get a 128 Mb and give yourself plenty of freedom to put all kinds of goodies on the D Drive and leave your C Drive relatively open (4- 6 Mb free).

The other thing I would suggest is to get yourself a screen protector. Either the Brando or Overlay + (I prefer the latter it’s much more transparent). They can be a little tricky to apply (avoiding lint or air bubbles) but the protection will be well worth it in the long run.

Enjoy your new mini computer… I mean phone

Can anyone tell me where I can purchase screen protectors for the P800? Specifically the "Overlay +" or "Brando".

Thanks.

Posted by: The Rex

congrats on the phone, jimmy

i had a brando screen protector and hated it...i found it to be a little too thick (kind of made the display seem dull)... also it got scratched up really quick (within a couple of weeks) making the display look "milky".... milky, dull display looked like a brand new display when i took it off

right now i'm using some cheesey write rights... a grabbed a handful last time i was at my brother's place they get milky just as quick, but they're pretty cheap and pretty thin

The only place at this time that I know of that offers the Overlay + is http://p800er.com/product.asp?id=54 and they are presently out of stock. There is a chance that www.virtualdynamix.com may be carrying it in the near future (VD does have the Brando in stock).
I’d suggest give them a call and ask “what’s up”

so i asssuem thati should for sure put on a plastic cover piece to protect my screeen eh?!

Jimmy

Posted by: The Rex

jimmy, i'd definitely recommend a screen protector

a little ot, vwvwvw, has the overlay gone milky after some use as the brando did?

You can do whatever you like... some ppl just don't care if their screen gets scratches.

After having the O+ on my P800 for a month now I have nothing but good things to say about it. I see no reason that the material should ever change color (become cloudy).
As far as the Brando, it had a cloudy (milky) appearance to begin with. I was glad to have used it till something better like the O+ has come along.
