Trouble with mfm not playing

Hello,
I just recently purchased a gu87 and I have been trying to load some ringtones. I did a search but did not see any info on this. I have the wav2mfm converter. What I did was convert 10s of a mp3 song to wav then changed the format to 8000hz, 16bit mono and then converted it to mfm.
I transfer it via infrared to my phone. When I try to play it, it doesn't play at all. Is there something wrong that I am doing? I was told you could load voice ringtones, is this wrong? Any help would be greatly appreicated.
thanks
snoop

(This is my first reply)
You cannot play recorded (.amr) sounds as tones (unfortunatly).
Is it in PCM format? I use Sound Recorder to change formats. (On my PC, Start>Run>Sndrec32). I tried a different format once, and it just sounded like a blur (like wind blowing when you're talking on the phone...)

what you did was right.but first you have to check the firmware of your phone.
i think that latest firmware(a39,a51,a53) supports mfm files up to 48kb.
if you have a a21,a22,a19 i think that you will not be able to play the mfm file. or the limit is 30kb (i am not sure about that)
remember the phone only plays mfm files up to 4850kb.
also bear in mind that if you pump the volume up in nero wave editor(i use this one) and the bars goes to red the phone will alos not play the sound.
so first check your firmware and second the kb of your mfm file
