Hi, I'v got a GD87 phone from my friend today,no matter which sim card I insert into the phone,it says "invailid sim"

but the funny thing is: I type 746 and menu to see the lock status.no one from the 5 lock types is activated.and with Cb2000 I can also see, that the Eeprom is unlocked.

does someone also have this experience? all the sim cards that I tried was working properly in other phones.so it must be some sofrware error.which block every sims.

thanks for any advices.

Have a look to see if any of the contacts are bent or dirty - it will give this message if it doesn't understand the messages it's getting from the SIM.

A good way to check this is to enable the SIM card PIN on another phone, and then try to use this SIM in the GD87 - if it asks for the PIN, and then rejects the card after you enter it, then you probably have a corrupt EEPROM. If it immediately comes up with "Invalid SIM" without asking for the PIN then you have a hardware problem. I had a GD92 with this problem, which was fixed by resoldering the SIM card holder.

if I insert a sim card which require pin,the phone just light up and show only the white screen.

if I insert a sim card which without sim require, the phone can turned on and say invailid sim.

that means a hardware problem? how can I fix it?

No, that sounds like a corrupt EEPROM to me, not a hardware problem. The only thing I can suggest is to find a reseller of the Ghost3D logs, and to generate an IMEI log for the phone (use the original IMEI) and write that to the phone. This will fix a wide range of EEPROM related errors.

The fact that it's crashing with a PIN protected SIM is a good indication that the hardware is OK - it can get far enough to work out that it needs a PIN for the SIM, which indicates that it can actually read data from it. If you have a hardware problem, you get exactly the same response if the SIM is PIN code locked or not.

I've had the same problem. I send it to CRC en they fixed it. I don't know what caused it, but the invoive said "new software uploaded"

so what is the exactly the procedure?
1.download a soft and use this soft read a Log file from my phone?

2.send the log file to a reseller of the Ghost3D logs, and get a generated imei log back after the payment?

3.again use this soft write the imei log to the phone?

correct me please!

That's a pretty accurate description of the proceedure - the only additonal thing is that the logger program is protected, so you have to buy the logs first to get the key for the program, then read your phone.

After that, you can send the log off, get the computed IMEI file and write it to your phone.

I can't help you on who the resellers are, because the guy I used to use stopped dealing with this stuff when changing IMEIs was made illegal in the UK.

thanks! I found the website www.kingmobilephone.com
do they also offer this service?

Posted by: TriMesh

It looks like it, but since they are in the UK they might not do the IMEI logs. The author of the loggier is "ghost3d@vip.hr" - you could try sending him an email and asking who the nearest dealer is to you.

is there diffrences between "invailid sim" and "sim error"?

Posted by: TriMesh

I don't know - the only error message I've ever seen on a GD87 has been "Invalid SIM" - ISTR that the phone I had with a bad connection was giving "SIM ERROR", but that was older firmware.

After a bit of experimentation, I think you must have an EEPROM problem - I stuck Kapton tape on various pins of the SIM, and the only responses I got from the GD87 were either that there was no SIM, or it all worked. I couldn't get any other messages - neither "Invalid SIM" or "SIM ERROR" appeared at all.

I think the whole story, how the phone has become this status should be useful for diagnose what problem is and how to solve.

this GD87 was bought in UK , unlocked and upgraded to chinese in Hongkong.

my friend has take the phone with him during hit trip in Canada and also tried to use him. after he insert a sim card from Canada the phone says "sim error"(in chinese, sorry that I translated "invailid sim" before), and keep showing is message ever since.

I think this GD87 is not a tri Band phone which also work on 1900,maybe there is something broken from trying to use in Canada.

I suppose it's just about possible, but it seems very unlikely - as far as I know, all GD87s/88s are triband, and I cant see any likely way that the SIM could have damaged the phone.

I still think that you best bet is to try and rebuild the EEPROM. If that fails, reflash the phone (BOOT, MAIN and LP) with a known good flash file set and do function clear/memory reset in CB2K.

If it's still bad after this, then you almost certainly have a hardware problem - but I think the IMEI log will fix it.

I got the calculated imei log with original imei and wrote it into the phone using panasonic reader 5.0,but I still geting "sim error" when I insert a sim and turn on the phne.

so I have a hardware problem...

another strange thing is: when I try to reflash the phone with Winmodo,I press the ON button after I see "signalling",the light went to green and than Winmodo aborted the flashing and say:can not open the Com port. this happen to me on 3 different PC with different OS,I tried also other vertion of Winmodo but result was the same.

I cant' really suggest what to do next. If you can get your hands on another serial cable, you could try that, and see if that will allow you to reflash the phone. It seems like an odd problem, though, since Panareader also uses a serial cable, and that obviously works.
