(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm coming back to the P800 family. I have a 2 yr old son and considering how many people here have the P800. I would think there are more than enought people here who have broken there screen. If you reply please tell me how you broke your screen. (If any of you have pics please post them also.)

HELP!!

THANKS,
E.T.-FREAK

I walked into a table with the phone in my pocket. The screen was facing out-wards and caught the corner of the table in the center of it. Kinda hard to photograph because of the reflectivity of the screen, but I'll post one if I can get a decent shot of it

i put my p800 at my back pocket so i sometimes sit on it...

doesn't damage the screen!!!

same thing happened to my old nokia 8890... ever since then my phones have always been facing inwards in my front right pant pocket...

i haven't broken the p800 display, but it feels quite fragile: i'm afraid i'm going to drive the stylus right through it

Hi,

I have one on B/O with Fido but this thread is making me a little nervous....
Could you say that the screen is atleast a sturdy as that of a Palm? I tend to keep my phone in my pocket all day (move around the office alot and if I leave it on my desk, it tends to stay there...) and I would hate to sit-down and hear a crack!

Also, for those of you using this phone who upgraded from an R380, is this phone as bulky, less, or more?

Thanks

I just dropped/threw my P800 today. I accidentally took mine out of my holster too quickly today and the P800 was flung at least 6 feet in front of me plus a nearly 3 foot drop. Luckily, the P800 survived with minor dents and scratches. The screen was not damaged at all and everything was intact. Only the battery door popped open and the battery flipped out. Almost lost the battery into the NYC sewage system but I saved the battery just in time.

Yikes!

Thanks for doing that durability test for us.

Sounds like you had your excitement for the day!

I hoped I wouldn't have to post to this thread

Unfortunately, today when coming back from a meeting, my P800 got knocked out of the Krusell case somehow and the unprotected phone hit the concrete parking lot from waist height. Hard. Blew the back off of the phone, battery went flying.

I nearly had a heart attack seeing my phone in 3 seperate pieces on the parking lot...

But aside from 2 small nicks in the case near the microphone, it survived 100% unscathed. Screen is fine, phone and camera both work fine.

Not half bad engineering there!

I think I do have a suggestion for the Krusell guys (there was one posting on here a while ago), which would be to put a black elastic restraint across the bottom of the phone underneath where the flip opens. Would help to ensure that the phone stays in the case instead of doing a dive out if the snap button pops open (I think my briefcase might've caught the snap and popped it open getting out of the car).

I'm going to get some black clothing elastic and modify my own case in this way for a little extra peace of mine.

I heard from a Fido dealer its $150 to replace it. Is that true?

I don't mean he is lying but I just want to make sure.

$150 inc labor is not bad. The part itself is $110 wholesale, as far as I can tell. VirtualDynamix in CA was $175 for the replacement and comes with a firmware update. When I broke mine, I got a couple PMs from people who have extra screens that they could sell me(I think below $150), and the actual replacement job isnt terribly complex, but I didn't check my pms at the time.

i was quoted $150 usd just for the part alone from a very reputable dealer... haven't broken mine; was just curious

I bought my p800 just about 6 months ago, and tonight may have been the end of the run.

After comming back from a party with a few friends I picked up my jacket, which I had forgotten I'd placed my p800 in earlier that evening. As I took out the jacket the p800 fell COMPLETELY FACE DOWN on the concrete, battery, stylus, battery cover, even the sim card flying in all different directions! It was dark outside so I put everything back together, turned the phone on and saw the green light...but nothing from the screen. Once I got inside I found a COMPLETELY cracked screen. The phone does turn on though and seemingly syncs with my comp just fine.

How much would it be to fix the phone? Is it worth it?

This has not been a good night...

You can get an external LCD screen from rickpaul at www.globalmob.com for around $150 USD.

You can fix it with a new LCD screen, a Torx T6 screwdriver and alot of elbow grease (jk!) It's pretty easy actually. if you're still nervous about it, I can help you out. I'm in Bowie,Maryland (15 mins east of DC) so if you are close by, drop me a PM

I have accidental damage insurance on my phone. £5pm is a small price to pay for piece of mind. Orange Care plan.
