yep, it won't power on for anything. it's not the battery, i shut the phone off when it still had about 5%. then after a few hours i tried switching it on and no go. i don't have the charger on hand but i'll try turning it on with the charger connected and the battery removed. other than that i'm thinking about sending the phone back.

That's weird, are you sure it's not the battery?

Sometimes when it gets really low it won't turn on after it's powered off until you put it on the charger. If that doesn't work you should try another battery or call Siemens. If it's damaged you will need to ship it to them.

it's not the damn battery. does anybody know siemens usa phone # ? do they have service centers somewhere in chicagoland ?

Did you try adjusting the golden battery contacts?
BTW: AFAIK the phone won't work without inserted battery even when the charger is connected.

Isn't this true for all phones?

no, some phones (nokia 6210) will work without a battery with just the charger connected.

Only one service center and you have to set up an order number and mail it to them. It's in Minnesota.

My Samsung 3500 works without the battery. In fact, I can plug it in and then take the battery off while on a conversation.

the s40's battery is rated at 650 milliamps/hour. what would happen if you'd hook 1000mah to the battery terminals on the phone ? what would happen if you'd do that and reverse the polarity ?
