I just bought a S40, I like the phone, but I cannot get the thing to connect. All I get is a message saying server not responding. My carrier is cingular, I called them and csr said the settings were all ok and I would have to call the tech tomorrow. Anybody have an idea what my problem may be?

Sounds like you have the outgoing calls set to data instead of voice. Otherwise, that is pretty odd.

Might try a reset.

Reset to defaults
To reset the entire phone, including deleting ALL phonebook and event entries, do the following:
1) Remove the back cover, battery and smart card
2) Replace the battery and back cover
3) Turn on the phone and press *#337#
4) The phone will show a status bar then turn itself off when done.
5) Put the sim back in and you're done.

Note: Performing the reset incorrectly or too often may damage the S40.

I can't confirm. I did reset my S40s *many* times. If something seems to have gone wrong (e.g. no provider name on display, missing menu entries) just repeat the reset and everything's fine.
