How do I go about removing the "Rogers AT&T" (my service provider) words that sit on top of the screen when it is in stand by mode? Can I change this to read "Floyd's Phone" or something?

Nope, you can't change operator logos for Sony Ericsson Phones...only Nokia's offer that!

If you get uncustomized firmware, it won't remove that?

we're talkin about the operater logo...firmware has no impact on this...it will and shall remain to watever carrier you are using at the moment...just like every other phone...except SE phones you cant change the operator logos...like nokias can

I guess that's a way.

My friend bought a simens phone though at FIDO. And when he inserted his sim card, it was written FIDO.CA on the screen as an operator logo.

We ask the technician to remove it and he agreed immediatly. But he then came back to tell us that the serial number on the SIM card prevent the operator logo to be removed.

Unfortunetly, I can't remember that serial number but for those who wish to remove their operator logo, maybe a technecian can do it if your serial number is not the one my friend had =)
