Okay iam a newbie, but is it possible hook up my laptop through my siemens S40???

Without paying for the Cingular Data-Connect service...

You know... the way i hooked up to the wap service for no muula...

I think Sprint lets you do it, what about Crappy Cingular..

Iam not just b-i-t-c-h-i-n-g about them ...

......I work for them to or rather for SBC.

You can effect outgoing data calls like with any modem. Simply install the S40 modem driver and create a dial up connection.

when i dial from my modem

it says "data call"

and then it terminates...

i use the same isp number that connects me to wap services...

this is on a S40

hmm maybe there is a way to turn off so it wont recognise it as a data call

maybe siemens tech support can help...

Don't use the WAP service number, that's something completely different. Ask your provider for a mobile internet access number.

i dont think it matters, they say one number for all

dial from computer
dial for wap
dial from laptop through cell phone

all same number

Can't believe this. I have separate numbers for WAP and mobile internet access from my provider. And it works!

Actually I have the same problem when I try to dial up my ISP from my iPAQ... it says DATA CALL on my S40 screen and then terminates the call.

There is no way you can use the dial up without making a data call at least with Cingular. I dont know about Voicestream...
I do know that in Europe is another story... almost everything is possible there... I do go often there and their sevice is superior... If you go there and insert an european sim card on the s40 it will also activate some hidden menus here as the call timer and others.... go figure...........

cause it says "DATA CALL" on the S40 everytime i do...

"Data call" is OK (actually that's what it is), no idea why it shouldn't work.

Call up your provider... maybe you have "data services" disabled on your account. It seems most NA providers disable and charge extra for it as an optional service.
