Hi, I am in hk now...

I brought a vancouver newspaper with me on the flight, and I found out Cityfone (cellular baby) have T39 and S40 now. T39 is selling for $799 + tax ($100 deduct w/ one year contract); and S40 for $599 (no deduction).

Pls post further imformation if anyone know more about this...

I'm in HK now too!

If you're in HK now, why do you want more information about those phones in Vancouver? To rub it in their faces? How bout I update the HK prices?

S40: $1800 (Shui For) - $2298HKD (Hong For) ~ $450CAD
T39m: $2450HKD ~ $480CAD
T39mc: $2550HKD ~ $500CAD

Oddly enough, the T39 'shui for' and 'hong for' or more or less the same. Even Ericsson Shop is selling at those prices.

HL, don't you already own a S40?

Posted by: GeEsEmFreak

Hrm.

I'm interested in getting a S40 from HK too... but my friend keeps telling me "YOU CAN'T GET A S40 FOR $2000!@!#!". Would you mind telling me where you saw a S40 for $1800?

Posted by: mawti

Um...well before I would tell you but not anymore. Because I just put my phone up for sale . Check out the Buy/Sell/Trade forum for more details.

Posted by: H.L.

S40 in hk, still $26XX in those cell shop
T38's price keeps dropping to $2000

so MANY phone choice in hk

Posted by: YingKit

i read a magazine and it quotes that s40 is $2200 in hk... (water good)

but two weeks ago.. i saw there is $18xx in hk if u have the magazine coupon.. haha...

anyway.. good luck!!

Posted by: H.L.

maybe $26XX for S-40 is the highest price I saw in hk, coz I haven't gone to places like kowloon west to shop around.

Prices in hk are huge different, have to search for god damn cheap stuffs, just like the "Cellphone Srings" I brought for my S-40, it costs $7hkd in Garden Street. Later, I went to Causeway Bay, exactly the same thing, but the shop is selling for $40hkd!!!

Posted by: GeEsEmFreak

Why's the pricing so weird in HK? The T39m is in a completely different "class" than the S40, yet it is cheaper... Maybe they use their phones more as a fasion accessory? Explains why the S40 is more popular and thus more expensive.

Hey you guys in HK... do you see more people with S40's or T39's?

Posted by: GeEsEmFreak

There's a T39 going for $710 USD on eBay with about 19 hours to go... that's about $5500 HKD.

Not surprisingly the seller is from HK

You guys over there wouldn't happen to be selling phones on eBay wouldya?

Posted by: YingKit

hk people mostly will not buy cell phone in ebay.. since the store price is almost the same or cheaper than ebay...

i think hk ppl will get T39 more than s40.. thats what i heard from another hk ppl forum...

however.. the most bad side of ericsson is the RF...

from what i know is.. the SAR of T28 is 1.49 (not really sure for T39.. but must be similar.. ~_~ ), and for S40 is only 0.33...

so u can see the different...

Posted by: GeEsEmFreak

Thanks for bringing that up... until now I never really paid attention to SAR levels.

Hrm.

The T39 has GPRS and Bluetooth... Hrm. Nah, I think I'm willing to risk my mental health just so I can use a Bluetooth headset. (Which I'm sure will increase my brain cell degration as well.)

Posted by: pppp

hey.
can anyone tell me...where can I get S40 for cheaper price...since I am gonna go hk next week?

is it possible...for you guys to name the store or...locate?
And I think that's gonna save me some money and time...

and...at which locate did you guys upgrade the firmware of S40?

come on, I am not from hk....I am just visiting a friend there...

Posted by: pppp

what type of software version they are offering in hk?
and...where is the location?

Posted by: YingKit

actually.. just go to any store in "monk kwok" to buy the s40... there should be no big different.. maybe just around $100-$200 hkd...

if u want to upgrade the phone in hk.. u can go to "wan chai" to get a free upgrade.. (the latest version should be 3.2.0..) they will take one day for the upgrade.. but u have to make sure that u buy the "hong" product... (if u r not chinese.. u wont understand what "hong" is.. haha.. and i dunno how to explain tho.. sorry...)

if u want to upgrade your phone in US or Canada.. u can buy whatever "water" product or "hong" product.. US siemens is willing to upgrade the s40 for u anyway...

however.. if u want to save your time.. just ask the sales in hk that what version u will get from them.. remember.. the latest version is 3.2.0... ok??

let me explain.. oftenly "water" product is cheaper than "hong" product.. the reason is.. "water" will not get the warranty from the retail store.. thats why hk siemens will not upgrade any "water" product.. since the store which sell "hong" product got the licence from siemens already.. so they will sell the phone with a higher price.. and they r responsible to repaire your phone...

however.. if u r living in US or Canda.. the US siemens will do the repair or upgrade for u without check your s40 is "water" or "hong"... so u better get a "Water" product in this situation...

Posted by: YingKit

pppp...

i helped u to check the price... =)

u can buy the s40 in "Boardway" for only $2098... and i just make sure that the version is 3.2.0 already..

so u dun have to bother for the upgrade process... =)

"boardway" is a retail store.. and u can find it in "monk kwok" .. just ask anyone in hk.. i sure that they can tell u the exact location... =)

but i am not sure it is "hong" or "water" product...

Posted by: pppp

First of all, I would like to thank you for your help

since you had said that the water good won't get any kinda upgrade service or support from Siemens HK...

then I guess I should buy the official imported S40 instead

do you have any idea where I can get a cheaper (hong product) for S40?

I know, it's too risky to buy the water good even though it's cheaper

by the way, do you know how much money of difference between the hong product and water good???

Posted by: pppp

Yingkit...
so you are saying I can buy the S40 from Broadway for around $2100 with the lastest software...?

is "Broadway" the name of the store?

so..you think it's ok if I buy the phone from them?

and...what type of battery charger do you have? the 110V...for North America....or 220V for hk?

and...you said that Siemens Hk won't upgrade the fireware for water good, not even if I pay them?

Posted by: mawti

Well Broadway is not the only store you could go to but its is one. $2100 sounds about right but i'm not sure they include the 3.2.0 firmware. I bought mine form CM Concept 3 weeks ago and it still had the 2.1.0. Maybe they changed but i doubt it. But upgrade is only at Wanchai it's not that bad.
The charger can handle 110v-220v so it should be ok in Canada. Just have to buy the plug converter (couple bucks) cuz it's not included.
Upgrade? Mine is hong for so i wouldn't know. People are saying they won't? I guess "paying" them might help Just don't let ICAC find out or they may treat you for coffee.

Posted by: mawti

Sorry, i think plug 'adapter' might be a better word.

Posted by: pppp

by the way....

anyone knows how can I check the software verson on S40?

what do I have to press.....?

Posted by: mawti

* # 0 6 #

It will show the IMEI first. Press down on the side button to the the SW-Version

Posted by: YingKit

as mawti said... just buy a adpeter for the charger.. it only cost u $5 cdn...

from what i read on another forum outside this website... the ppl in there said Boardway has the latest version for s40.. which is 3.2.0... but i am not sure it is hong or water tho.. so.. u have to ask them b4 u buy it...

but.. actually.. if u decide to use the s40 in toronto.. or canada... why dun u choose the water product?? since really no big different if u bring it to toronto... but u can pay less...

i think no matter which store u buy the phone.. for hong, it is around $2300-$2500.. and they will have rebate if u sign the contract with them.. but only $200-$300... and at least sign 6 months.. so.. haha...

for water... it should be $2100-$2300... so.. it is not a big different tho...

oh.. just check that some stores in "sin dak plaza" have some water s40 only sell $1880... but not sure the software version...

but beware to buy phone in those place.. hehe.. =)

Posted by: YingKit

oh.. check again..

if u buy hong product in the network provider store.. the price is around $2600-$2900... but mostly of them will have $200-500 rebate if u sign the contract with them.. which means u have to use their service...

Posted by: GeEsEmFreak

Basically if you buy hong product, you buy the phone and you've got the latest firmware. Either you buy if from Broadway with the latest or you take it to Siemens HK and upgrade it there for free.

But if you get water good, you will have to bring it back to Siemens US to upgrade the firmware as no one in HK will do it for a water phone. Factor in the shipping cost of the phone from Canada to Siemens US and it will still be cheaper if you get water good. I see the only reason buying hong phone is for people who live in HK and must get an upgrade from Siemens HK or no upgrade at all.

Besides, they are selling them for ~$1800-$1900 at "sin dat"!!!

God bless water goods.

Posted by: pppp

for those prices of S40 you guys stated...

if I buy S40 from some network provider...like Smartone or Mobile China, without using their plan or sign the contract....

how much will the phone cost?
somewhere around $2500?

Posted by: YingKit

in smartone.. the price for s40 is $2780... can get $300 rebate if u sign half year contract...

but that was a july price... maybe some changes in Aug... i am not sure... =)

and what advice u is.. i dunno u know where "sin dak" is.. but.. u better not buy phone with the stores in "sin dak"... because their service is not good... and they always tell lies... =)

just spend more money to get a better phone..

What? Why so? What if I go to HK and want the latest software on my phone right away? Do I wait until i return to N.America? And if i do, why wait the few days when i can get it done for free in a few hours at Wanchai? What i think you ment to say was that "IF SOMEONE IS BUYING THE S40 FOR YOU, THEN GET THE SHUI FOR IF THEY DON'T WANNA UPDATE IT FOR YOU"

Posted by: H.L.

my phone doesn't have version code...the customer service lady at siemens showed to me...

Posted by: mawti

Ha? You mean pressing * # 0 6 # doesn't do anything? Strange. What exactly was she showing you?

Posted by: H.L.

There is a group of firmware don't have version number when press the code

Posted by: Spectre

The *#06# command puts the IMEI # on the display. That works for all software versions. Pressing the up side of the navigation key on the side of S40 after you've got the IMEI # on the screen will display the software version - but only if its version 2.9.0 or later. It won't do anything if it's earlier than 2.9.0. If your S40 has software that old you should send it to their Texas service facility for a free update. You can call for your RMA: 1.888.777.0211

Posted by: H.L.

so such need to send my phone a thousand miles away. It only takes 4 hours to update my firmware in hk...

Um. Are you sure? Then why did it work when I had version 2.1.0? Hmm....I wonder how I knew it was 2.1, not 2.9?

Posted by: VTECMAN

Are any s40 ever locked???

Posted by: mawti

...only if u mess'd around with it

Posted by: H.L.

I don't know what is the different between 3.2.0 and older version
but I know all my ring tones are GONE!!! >.<

I should of telling the lady to backup my ring tones...haaha
