I haven't had any shut off problems. Did Best Buy make you purchase the service?

Okay, there haven't been a whole lot of replies so far, but I've started tabulating the info gathered and will continue to update it. You can view the summary data HERE, or d/l the M$ Excel Workbook HERE.

Here are a couple of assumptions or guesses I'm making based on my limited knowledge and what I see so far (from 8 phones polled)...

SW-Version Is the major release or number. So far there are 2, the majority are running 06..
P.-Date Production Date? They keep rolling off the line, and it takes about 6 weeks to get in the consumer's hands.
SW-Date Software Date The date the firmware was released or tested. Again there are 2 versions (or dates) which coincide with the SW-Version.
Variant I believe that this represents which carrier the software was produced for. It would be interesting to see what comes up here from a phone that has been unlocked, or one that has OEM software installed.

ATT customers make up 75% of those that have responded to date.

The only firmware problem I have is regarding bluetooth, I often get "internal bluetooth error"

It hasn't been posted or made available yet, just the S55/S57 fones so far. I certainly hope that the code for S56 is made available direct to customers through the same channels when it is available.

The code is now 3 months old and the way I see it; that's an eternity in this fast paced, feature crazed market. I submited a inquiry through the [International] Siemens web site last night about the upgrades and am still awaiting a reply.

Are there any Siemens 'insiders' on this forum that might have a more authoritative answer on this subject?

Don't hold your breathe for them to reply. It took them 8 days to respond to an e-mail I sent them asking about an accessory that's listed in the user's manual, but not available on their website. The same accessory is available on their UK site for the S55 - but they won't ship to the U.S. Their reply was basically since the phone is so new, not all accessories area available yet.

I'm confused. I thought the s 56 was new. How did you get one in September of last year?

A good friend is supposed to pick one up later this week from Cingular. It's a fresh shipment, will be interesting to see if it's updated code. After all, these are over 3 months old!

My Observations:

Looks like Cingular beat AT&T to market with the S56 by a solid month.
It took about 3 weeks for latest code to get from QA to the production line.
The freshest phone (7/12) was snagged by SiL1480.
OCbrody got his off the production line quickest; 30 days.
No apparent OEM versions of software reported to date.
Still no signs of updated software available at My-Siemens (US site's latest news flash is from June when Cingular announced it would carry the S56)

The only problem Im having is accessing tzones via CSD, other than that, everything's very nice, this is the first siemens ive purchased in over 4 years, and I wasnt to impressed overall back then, but this one is quite nice.
