Okay, I did a search on Bluetooth, but im still a little confused.

From what I understand, buletooth is a signal that allows for wireless communication between devices.

Does this mean I can d/l files and programs to my PC and then transfer them to my S56?

Do I need some USB cable to transfer between devices?

Is this Bluetooth service carry fees for use?

Thanks, and sorry for noob questions.

Bluetooth short-range wireless connections between Bluetooth devices such as cellular phones, personal digital assistants (PDA), and desktop and notebook computers.

BT uses fast 2.4Ghz radio signals to transmit voice and data. BluetoothTM transmission ensures both protection from interference and secure data transfers.

yes

no, you need to get a bluetooth card or dongle for your PC, it's similar to a network card.

> Is this Bluetooth service carry fees for use?

no, other than buying the card for your PC

Hope this helps

Yeah that helps a lot.

So i can buy the bluetooth card OR the card for my PC?

Where and how much are these cards?

Whats this USB cable I keep seeing on www.my-siemens.com?

Thanks again

You can get a bluetooth card (or USB dongle) for your PC at anyplace you get computer stuff, ebay, amazon, circuit city, etc. The bluetooth USB dongle generally runs in the $30-75 range.

Your S56 already has bluetooth capability, so you only need to outfit your PC.

The USB or serial cable is just another of the 3 methods available on the S56 to connect your PC to the phone, as is the IR port.

Hrm, okay let me get this clear.

To upload stuff from my computer to my phone, i could do any of the following:

1) Buy the USB dongle for my PC

2) Buy The USB cable

3)Buy the serial cable

The only difference between #'s 2 & 3 are the connection type, correct? Either one would do the same job?

Could I upload MP3's into my S56 and use them as ring tones?
I read somewhere on here, that I can record things and use them as ringtones, but I cant seem to do it. The only recording feature I can find is the Voice Memo, even then, I tried to copy the Voice Memo i made and paste it in the Ringtones folder on my fone, but that didn't work.

What are the advantages of getting the blutooth dongle card over the basic USB cable? What would you reccommend for just wanting to transfer and files from comp<->fone?

Thanks again

You can't use MP3's as ringtones. Only .MMF and .MIDI files.

You also don't need BT to transfer media like that. All you need are the data cables or IRDA. Using the cables is really quick there really is no need for BT. BT is faster than Irda from what I have heard... however I don't transfer media via BT so I really can't say anything on that...however I have used Irda before and I don't find it that slow at all.

You shouldn't be dissapointed with the USB cable. However, I don't know if they can all do this... but I'm looking for one that will also supply power to the fone (for re-charging) as well as xfer data.

Looks like standard retail on these babies comes in at ~$40. I'm still searching for some better pricing (maybe w/o the software that I can d/l for free.

Yes, I had seen the USB cable @ Siemens. Thank You. This was the baseline for price and functionality when I began my search for less expensive sources. I found some gray market cables on eBay. In these cases the shipping cost is too high, or the seller could not confirm that charging services were included with the product.

Once I get the BlueTooth bugs shook out of the Jabra and Palm operations with the S56 I will looking to play with the BT connection to PC/Laptop. From my preliminary research the TDK USB/BlueTooth adapter seems to be highly rated. Haven't seen it at any of the local retail outlets though. The IOGear unit sounds like one to stay away from.

Happy Synching!
