S55 or S56?

I'm on ATTWS and thinking of changing from my Nokia 7210 to S55 or S56.

I was thinking of going with the S56 because of the 850/1900 combination. If I travel overseas, I would just switch back to my 7210 for the 900/1800 frequency.

My question is, should I get the S55 or S56? My concern about getting S56 is the firmware support. I see new firmware for S55 and S57, but nothing for S56 yet. One reason I am switching phones is that I can update the firmware myself and not sure if I will be able to do it on the S56.

The reason I like the S56 is that I may get better reception than the S55 in the U.S.

Any thoughts?

As Synncere kindly pointed out in an earlier post -- the S56 is so new that there isn't an official update yet.

There may be hope though. I was beggining to wonder if this self-service upgrade strategy was only offered in Europeon and Asian markets. Looking at the Siemens-USA site I see that they are offering software upgrades to customers on at least 2 other phone models; S46 and SX56.

The question might be "how long have these phones been out on the market and how soon after were the updates made available to the consumer?"

RoadRash has already pointed out the issues with the S56 updates. Another thing you may wish to consider is the question of whether AT&T will offer GSM 850 in your area. But from your post, I take it that Dallas will have GSM 850. Having the additional frequency to fall back on would be beneficial in areas where you don't have sufficient signal strength on GSM 1900.
