s56 pitch and password?

Hello,

I picked up an s56 last night at best buy to replace a nokia 3590 on AT&T in orange county. I have two questions:

1. is the high pitch whine normal when the lcd is on?
2. is there a way to store the voicemail password in the phone, so I wouldn't have to type it in? I am fully aware of the "risks," but I have nothing to hide. On the nokia phone, in the voicemail number sections, one could put in a "p" for pause, then put the password right after.

Thank you!

1. No the whine is not normal (unless you have cheese nearby - okay that was stupid)
2. Yes. You get a pause by pressing and holding the "0" button until it turns into a "+". Each "+" is a 3-second pause.

Holy crap I think that's the fastest response ever. Thank you!

You should try cheese (at room temperature, naturally!) with grapes and granny-smith apples. Mmmm.

I've heard this whine/pitch on other lcd's before (my collegue's palm pilot makes this sound when the backlight is turned on), but I will gladly take your word for it and take the phone back to best buy today at lunch and have them replace it. The whine does turn off when the screen stops being lit up.

Thanks again

Unless you have dog-like hearing... I just tried my S56 just to be sure, and I don't hear a thing with or without the LCD being illuminated.

Okay, cool.

I just tried the password thing, putting in a plus, but it doesn't work.

I press and hold 1 key to get my voicemail. I hear nothing, then the phone goes "ble-blea-blah-bloop" then "please enter your password." I wait, and a few seconds later, "Please enter your password." Wait a little longer, "Are you still there?" Then it hangs up.

I also tried two plus signs. And three. For some reason, it appears the "pause" is not being used? Looks like I got a lemon?

Briefly press "1" (don't hold it down like you do to dial your VM). Then press the "Mailbox" softkey, then the "Edit" softkey. Now you can add "+1234" to the end of the phone number shown (+ is the pause mentioned in my previous post, substitute 1234 with your real password). Press OK, then the next time you dial your VM, after a 3-seond pause your password is dialed too.

Thanks, I knew how to add the password to the vm #; I was doing it the long way though (through the menus). I left the phone alone for a few hours, tried it again, and it, well... worked.

Looks like all's cool now except for the whine. I hope the second phone doesn't do it.

Later,
jedo
