File Transfer Via Bluetooth

I got my belkin bluetooth dongle today. I can't seem to transfer ringtones/wallpapers/javagames and such to my Siemens S56. I can't seem to sync it either. I have a connection to the phone, it just says the file transfer is not available. Anyone have this problem? Or am I just an idiot and am I doing it wrong? Any help is appreciated.

I've been doing some research and it seems that the S56 locks it's file system somehow, but I see other users that have transferred via bluetooth... Is there a way to unlock it? Please any help would be appreciated, I'm getting frustrated with this. I hope I didn't waste my money on a bluetooth dongle.

I haven't yet had the opportunity to try the file xfer with BT yet. But I have done a little with IRda on an XP rigged laptop.

Whenever the phone is seen by the IR port on the laptop I get prompted in the taskbar for an opportunity to push files to the connected device (the fone). After a successful xfer the files show up on the phone in sort of a holding area -- Data Objects. From there I have the opportunity to Save these objects but I have little control over 'where'. This seems to be driven the .ext of the file received on the phone.

I'm also given the opportunity to rename the file during the save operation but there is no way to input the / or \ character to specify the absolute path where I want the file.

I know it's not a BT xfer as you are attempting to do, but thought it still might be relevent.

In order for your phone to connect and share files with your BT adapter, the adapter must support the OBEX File Transfer Profile, there after you will have the ability to drag and drop files as you normally with Windows Explorer with some tricks.

About synching, If your adapter create the virtual COM ports for BT communication you can sync your phone with it. You just have to tell Siemens Data Suite the virtual COM port number of your adapter and it will sync thereof.

Has anyone actually transfered files (like ringtones) to the S56 via Bluetooth?

My BT adapter supports OBEX, but apparently it only works for the sync operation with the S56. I forget exactly what the icon name is, but it references OBEX and sync. Any attempt to drag and drop from explorer to the icon is unsucessful.

Can someone who actually has done file transfer via BT to the S56 help?

Thanks

I've done transfers, but I use a Mac with OSX 10.2.6 or between two Seimens phones.

I don't think it will help those using Windows, but on the Mac, once you have paired the Mac and the phone just go to the Bluetooth menu and select transfer file, select file to transfer, OK. The phone shows file received. Options on the phone, select where to save. You may get a message when you select transfer file saying something like can't transfer to device. Click OK and file will transfer.

Same thing on transfer form S55 to S56.
Pair, select file to transfer, select using BT.select devise to receive file, transfer, save file.

Thanks for the insight. My Windows XP desktop comes back with an error message something like "service file transfer not available" or something of that nature, and stops there.

I figured it out and forgot to post the solution. To transfer via bluetooth use the "inbox" selection in my bluetooth places. Just drag/drop the files and you will be set. The file transfer option thing in the systray is BS, don't use any of that crap.

I was just about to give it up when I decided to check for a software driver update. I reinstalled the BT software with a newer version from the manufacturers web site and it works! I replaced v 1.2.2.18 of the widcomm software with v 1.3.2.7 Didn't seem like a big deal at first, but whatever 'they' did between version 1.2 and 1.3 solved the S56 file transfer problem for me.

It gives me absolutely no error messages or other cryptic windows complaints, and I don't even have to drag and drop to the OBEX icon in BT network places - it lets me send files to the S56 from the windows explorer right mouse click "send to" menu.

FWIW, Widcomm seems to be the software developer of the BT drivers, as they are not the manufacterer of the dongle. In fact, the instalation process occured without the BT dongle plugged in, as directed in the instructions.

I bought the TBW-101UB Bluetooth USB Adapter and downloaded the drivers from http://www.trendware.com .
